yikes i was referring to her BEING a bully after that infamous amazon review of one of her books where a school friend called her out, i didn’t know any of this.
I don’t know anything about that I’m afraid

Oh also let’s not forget the other writer who was one of the first EVER pretty woman to be divorced Rosie Green.
Oh I loooovvvvveeeeddd Rodham and American Wife so much. I didn’t love Prep as much, but I think that’s because I’d just read I Am Charlotte Simmons and it felt a bit like a cut price version of that.i love curtis sittenfeld - american wife is truly one of my favourite books, i really liked the paper palace until the last ten pages.
i wasn’t a huge fan of the four winds though; kristin hannah is very readable but i find her character building a little lacking sometimes. they’re always enjoyable enough reads though.
i would add kate atkinson to this list too - imo she’s one of the best living british authors (or certainly the best living female one). her characters, her world building, is all excellent.
God help us when they all reach menopause.
I know. I'm post menopausal and am now amazed at the amount of women slightly younger than me cashing in. And acting as though they are the first. Of course the appalling Moran, and Davina McCall has made it her thing with accompanying *sad face* when talking about it. All going on about 'it's such a taboo subject' - is it? It certainly was but now?Cue a book deal, a podcast and a road show. The guests will all be the same women and they will all have their own ever so slightly different (but same) book/show/pod to promote.

Bella Mackie's first husband is ridiculously camp. I remember watching a clip of him giving some talk and he pinged to high heaven. I can't remember his name and bizarrely I cannot find any info on him, that's after searching all her aliases. They were in a relationship for years, married and then divorced only a couple months later. I seem to remember her writing about it, so not hushed up, so why isn't google returning results?
Wow, I'm just so funny and, you know - relatable, hahahaha!!! And oh look, an extract from MY upcoming book, which is just a collection of my essays, published in this very right wing weekend mag hahahahaha!!!! (And daddy's friend got me good job there too - Christmas gift coming your way Uncle Rupert!) How to make money without doing ANY work hahahahaha!!!!!!!!! God, EVERYONE wants to be me!!!! (Link to mournful Spotify playlist to go with the book in my stories xxxxx)

I'm glad you remember too! I misremembered them knowing each other for years. Disjointed because copying and pasting different bits.i’m so glad someone else remembers this!
his name has been wiped from any article about her - there’s a few where she mentions her first marriage and how awful it was (though one where she claims they didn’t know each other long, which i’m sure isn’t right) but you can’t find his name anywhere. how strange!!
I think she didn’t love her uni years and perhaps made the wrong subject choice. It seems like she found her feet with her masters and then had that fun uni time after. I agree with you though, I found that time so stressful. I think that if you don’t have ma and pa’s money and contacts to keep you afloat it is terrifying to be out of the structure of education and fully fending for yourself. Especially as the job market was so competitive then (I’m sure it still is for graduates but I graduated around the same time as Dolly and paid writing jobs were very thin on the ground).Sorry for anyone who wants a more general focus, but have come from the old thread which focused deeply on Dolly Alderton and Pandora Sykes
It's interesting how Dolly had the best times of her life not at uni but after uni? In a period in a London flatshare where she didn't have a real job. I didn't like that period of my life at all, was so unsure about my future
