I'm not sure I will finish the USA version. It has none of the subtleties and strategy of the UK one. It's just z list celebs shouting and ganging up on people. I've watched first 3 episodes so far and I'm not hooked.

I've got it on in the background while I get some work done, which says it all really. It's not the edge of the seat thrill ride that the UK one was

Also annoying that they try to add drama when there's no need - as soon as those women starting making notes, you knew that was stage managed. Of course one of them would 'accidentally' leave the paper lying around! 🙄

I’ve watched the first episode of the US version and I’m currently on episode 2 and already losing the will to stick with it.

All the contestants are very whiny. For example, when they were performing the challenges, everyone was making snide comments about one another whereas on the UK version, everyone was pulling together and the confrontational bits were saved for the round table or breakfast. It doesn’t help half of them have a background in reality TV, which means many of the contestants are deliberately hamming it up for the sake of the cameras, meaning everything they all do comes across as forced and insincere.

The traitors also seem very unintelligent, despite how many of them have backgrounds in reality TV, meaning they should know how to effectively exercise their manipulation.

Whilst I don’t think Alan is bad in his role as host, he comes across as a bit panto, whereas Claudia felt three-dimensional in her role as host.

I've only watched the first episode and quite honestly I'm not sure if I want to continue. Everyone is just AWFUL. I want everyone murdered immediately, even the traitors.

With the tasks being the exact same it's deja vu all over again.

On episode 2 and think I'm going to give up on it. It just isn't anywhere near as good as the UK version, it just feels like every other US reality show, and just fake. It also proves that the strength of the UK one is people being unknowns

Even Alan isn't a patch on Claudia.

Surely they can’t keep doing same exact trials everytime for every season? It’s going to be so boring if so

I reckon they will change the tasks for the next series (though not sure about the upcoming UK Celeb one depending on when they are planning to film). Think someone mentioned upthread the UK and US series were filmed back to back in order to save on costs as it’s far cheaper to fly a cast of 20 halfway across the world and back than set up an entirely new location, production team, tasks etc in the US.

If you stick with it in one of the tasks the behaviour will make your jaw drop

The barrel one or after?

Don't think any of this is a spoiler to say for the US or UK versions.

It's interesting you can see:
  1. Some slight production changes between the two shows - despite most of the format being identical - probably based on feedback whilst filming/editing the UK version (you can tell the US version is colder so likely filmed after the UK one?).
    1. For example having the contestant go "up stairs" each night rather than leaving the house in separate cars, and Alan making an entrance down the stairs for breakfast. Of course production-wise there wouldn't be 21 ensuite rooms in that house so they're presumably still sending them to secure hotels to keep them separated, but it keeps the viewers into the idea they're all living together and doesn't break "the reality" of the situation to meet production constraints. The US cast with TV alumns were probably more comfortable filming "fake" material for the purposes of the show's edit than the UK cast would be.
    2. Another example is that Alan didn't visit the Traitors tower until well into the series to explain a rule change. This was probably in response to the 'Alyssa' situation. Also I suspect the US contestants were generally less familiar with "Alan" then the UK contestants would be with Claudia Winkleman, though this might just be because the UK (and the BBC in particular) has a more concentrated media.
  2. Some slight changes in editing to suit a US audience and the need to fit adverts into the programme - lots more dramatic music cues and stings that TBH sometimes felt overdone ("you think I'm a traitor?" cue drums #dun #dun #dun! - well, duh, they're all suspecting each other to start with!).
  3. Differences in how US shows and UK cast their reality TV. Everyone in the US show is pretty, has perfect makeup, and is very camera-ready. The UK version to my mind was better with a wider pool and more diverse range of people acting as "real people"; no "made for reality" TV stars here, although I will say the US pair brought decent - albeit clearly prescribed - drama.
  4. Differences in how US contestants are expected to play to win and almost proud to play the game tactically and smartly to reach the end/get the prize, whilst in the UK they're all scared of a bad public backlash (the legacy of 'Nasty Nick'!) and getting tagged as a 'gameplayer' so try to act nice and humble. The US would have none of this "she's a 75 year old woman so I can't accuse her of being a traitor" - Andrea would be thrown under a bus at the first opportunity!

I've been listening to a good podcast - Laters, Traitors - by comedian Sara Barron and her Geoff Lloyd (radio presenter). It's about the US version, but they talk a lot about the UK one too and how it compares

Late to the party here but I’ve just finished watching The Traitors and OMG amazing tv. I was so hooked (and so glad I could binge watch it)! Observations:

1. I didn’t like Wilf from the first episode. Not sure what it was about him - probably the fact he said he was good at “positive manipulation”. He just made up a phrase to try make it sound like manipulating people can ever be a good thing. I get the premise of the show and all that, but to brag about that as a personality trait was just a massive red flag for me. And then I never bought any of his BS guilt/shame when talking to the audience - felt like he was trying to manipulate us too.

2. John was simply horrible. He came across as incredibly bitter and cruel with the way he treated Aaron. Was glad to see the back of him.

3. I’ve read a lot of comments on here about Meryl not having a single original thought and while that’s probably the case, MAYBE she knew that was how to get to the final. If the traitors think they can manipulate you and don’t see you as a threat, then there’s no need for them to murder you. Was that her game plan all along? I mean, probably not but you never know!

4. I expected more of Andrea. I really liked her but she didn’t really do much in terms of the game. Kudos to her for her effort in tasks though - top bird.

5. Kieran was seriously switched on - perhaps because he came in late so could be more objective?

I’m sure you’ve covered all this already!
