I did enjoy it but definitely got the vibe some of them wanted to make a career out of it quite early on. Most of them definitely weren't just normal people.
But the nature of the beast of this type of show is it will always attract people looking at it as a springboard to something else.
It is invitable.
I actually don't really care as long as it is entertaining. Which imo it really was.

Normal people can still want to make careers out of things

When people say normal people were on it, they mean regular people that aren't celebrities. They all had day jobs (call centres, estate agents, charities, students etc), or were very minor in their fields if in the entertainment sector. The actresses were basically bit part/background actors who also had other jobs, comedian and magician weren't exactly selling out venues.

I'm not sure what else people would class as normal.

Yeah it's just one of those things these days. As I said too I still enjoyed it, just hope it doesn't go too far the other way into proper -z list territory. Probably got a good few years in it yet.

I really hope so - for every 100 gym obsessed influencers with veneers from turkey, hopefully there’ll be one “relatively normal” person, even if they want a career in the spotlight.

I would apply but I don’t think I’d be able to hack it. And I’m a barrister, so that wouldn’t sit well professionally…doubt I’d get selected anyway.

They'd probably love a Barrister. Would make it similar to And Then There Were None!

What i would class as normal would be everyday jobs such as plumber, postie, nurse, shopkeeper, retail assisstant, bus driver, teacher, roofer, etc. I agree with the posts saying that the people on the show were celeb craving actors. Cheer leader coach might be a job in US and if over here its onky recently and i would imagine a niche 'profession'.

Just finished the Oz one. Brutal compared to ours. I think I prefer the format of the UK one, but like other people I hope it doesn't go the same way as other shows and attract/cast z listers looking for tv careers.

I presumed the cheerleading coach was a hobby. Like all the 30yo 'artists' who actually mean they live at home with their parents and live off their money whilst painting occasionally and nothing sells.

nope it’s a real job ☺️ there are loads of really successful cheerleading programmes in the UK that have full time coaches and Theo is head coach of his own programme - Mayne Allstars. A lot of us do it part time too - I coach a few hours a week (more during peak competition season) on top of my regular 9-5 but my head coach runs the gym full time.

I worked with a woman whose husband had a ‘normal’ job … but was also on the books as a TV extra for fun (even now umpteen years later we still play Spot the Paul for stuff like Morse and Midsomer Murder). He was in the audiece for quiz shows on a regular basis because the producers liked people who knew how to act around a camera and who wouldn’t be Struck dumb or not stop talking. I guess in a way, this is pretty much the same.

When was this announced???

I meant people in your situation who coach but have a full time job. They often miss the day job out and put their hobby as their job.

James Argent? I hope not. 🤮

I reckon that’s just a mock up.
It only finished last week. The BBC had no idea how popular it would be and we’ve since had Christmas so no time to recruit “celebs“.
Good point.
I probably would watch a celeb version, but really hope there would be better candidates than the usual suspects who constantly pop up on these programmes.
Jamie Lang, Joe Swash, Owain Thomas, Fleur East etc etc the ones that are always on Celebrity Blankety Blank and The Wheel.

Eurgh trust the bbc to ruin it with a celeb version. Part of the reason this worked well imo is that although you could tell some wanted the 'fame' to boost their careers, on the whole they were fairly relatable. I hate celeb versions of anything tbh though, I don't think having bottom of the barrel Z listers is as appealing as a lot of production companies think it is.

I loved the series but I think the final had a flaw. They shouldn't have been told that kieran was a traitor. There was obviously at least one traitor left, because they murdered after Amanda left. So the group should have had to vote to banish blind. That way 2 traitors could have it split the money. The format meant that was impossible.

If Wilf had worked together with Kieran (and influencing the others with their comments at the table) they could’ve banished Meryl first, then Aaron, then Hannah… then split the money!
