Yeah, I think the final consolidated figures will show how much it has grown through word of mouth. I caught up halfway through the series because I was intrigued by how the reaction to it had gone from "it's alright" after episode 1, to "omg this is amazing!" after a few episodes.
This article says five million have now watched the first episode:

I read the first American series will feature a mix of civilians and celebrities

i actually love this idea! it would be an interesting commentary on how easily a celeb and their reputation could sway a “civilian” - or if everyone would be immediately suspicious of the celebs.

i saw a mad tweet earlier which said to just bring THIS cast back for series two, with all the stuff that’s already happened, and see how that dynamic plays out with new traitors etc. can’t see it, but it would be crazy to watch.

I only started watching because some friends recommended it, binge watched the first 5 episodes and was hooked.

I only gave it a watch after seeing it featured on Gogglebox. If I’d not seen it on there I wouldn’t have given it a second glance.

I'm watching the Australian version atm.

Their contestants are brutal! No crying or sympathies or loyalties to each other on that one from day one 😂 It makes for a MUCH more exciting show each round table especially!

The downside is it comes across like an American reality show. I googled it and apparently their version was a huge ratings flop in Australia. Watching it compared to our version of the show, even though the Aus version materialised first, I'm enjoying it so far but I can see why Australian viewers weren't enamoured with it. It's just filmed like an American reality show (but I don't know if that's the normal style for Australian shows) and set up in a large but very, very normal-looking building.

I think the UK theming and overall production is far better (tbf though, it's the BBC and they probably do have a higher budget than its Australian TV channel counterpart showing the show). But the Australian contestants and the gameplaying, sabotaging and sneakiness outranks the UK gameplaying by miles.

Where can you view the Aus version? I must agree, the setting and cinematography was fantastic in the BBC version.

Quitt . Net has everything. And I mean, everything from movies to tv shows to docs. That’s where I’m watching it.

I must agree, the setting and cinematography was fantastic in the BBC version.

If I could take the cinematography and Claudia and the settings from the UK version (Australia is too sunny to get the dark, gothic vibe down though they do try) and the drives and complete lack of loyalties from the Aussie contestants version I think we’d have a hell of a series!

Has Kieron been in anything? I really recognise him. Could of been something like celebs go dating?

I recognised almost all of them. I had to give up watching as I found it very staged. I felt like I was watching TOWIE meets Cluedo.

I’m shocked they’ve all left their jobs. £33,000 won’t go as far as they think.
This may be harsh but Meryl does not have the personality to be a presenter.

Did any of them have normal jobs? Merl was supposed to be a call centre worker - but she has already been on TV before this. Magicians, actors, comedians etc..

I did enjoy it but definitely got the vibe some of them wanted to make a career out of it quite early on. Most of them definitely weren't just normal people.

This is where I think people are just kidding themselves when they think ‘normal’ people are being looked over from more ‘media’ people when it comes to reality show. Which ‘normal’ person in their right mind would give up their careers and risk being apart by media (and you don’t even get rewards and fame properly like in the start of the 00s) to apply for a show like this if they didn’t already want it in the first place

The Traitors isn't a reality show though, not in the usual sense anyway, it's a game show with a touch of fly on the wall thrown in.

I agree most (but not all) of them on it are likely go want a bigger media profile and maybe fame hungry. But they are still normal in that they aren't celebrities or any big players in the media.

Even quiz shows like The Chase you see people go from one quiz to another.

If they’ve signed up to be on a mailing list for network game show opportunities then they will likely be looking to go on whatever they can. I’ve been in the audience at tv shows a few times and get loads of emails whenever anything is filming near me or if game shows are looking for contestants. Some people probably apply for anything and everything going.
