I finished the doc this morning after a friend told me to watch it. Got to admit in the first part I really struggled to not victim blame and be a bit exasperated by how naive Cecilie was. But seeing some of the messages and hearing how he spoke to the women made me wish they’d actually gone deeper into the love bombing that clearly went on and the level of manipulation.
From the brief messages we saw from Cecilies friends you could see a couple were trying to caution her but I know firsthand that sometimes you just have to find some things out for themselves. It’s just sad her way of finding out left her massively in debt.
To be honest I’m glad it can spark a conversation around this, I really do wish there was more around the control, manipulation and love-bombing going on. This is a really extreme situation but I think a lot of women can relate to being sold on a lie and manipulated and how nasty men can turn when you dare challenge them on their behaviour. I dated a guy for 6 years and whilst I wasn’t frauded out of a lot of money it was abusive and I eventually found out he’d got engaged to a girl in America. He told me it was for visa reasons. My most recent ex turned really nasty when I wanted my money back from a holiday we had booked together- especially once I threatened small claims. I lost out on a lot of money from this guy after living with him and helping with bills, booking things and having a joint account. The experience has made me more cautious but even when friends and family tried to caution me on some things it was difficult to act on it due to the insidious nature and control of these relationships.

I just watched it and was searching on here, found this thread and some others, in one they mention “hair fished” and “teeth fished” by ken not smiling on their profiles. Got me thinking the first woman doesn’t particularly look like her tinder profile pictures and then it hit me she smiles with her mouth closed on every single picture.

Spoilers:

I don’t know why - I found her vapid. Not to say I mean to victim blame and that she is to blame for what happened, but I find her having her head in the clouds and the first part with her telling the story took up too much time, as I didn’t find anything captivât with her personality.

The Swedish lady at least had some personality and declined both a physical relationship as well as hanging out in the champagne flies setting.

The Dutch one was a fun watch! I wish she would have given more detail on what their 14-month relationship looked like.

I want to know more about the body guard and the business partner, where the staged pictures were from and the story around all that. And maybe hear from the swindler’s mother again.

What is teeth fished or hair fished??

I watched this yesterday! I mean the guy gave me such ick vibes and if it wasn't for all his apparent wealth, it makes me wonder how many women would have been interested in him based on personality alone (which he didn't seem to have much of apart from lavish wannabe playboy). He seemed like a massive deuchebag.

On the one hand I'm shaking my head at those women who have been duped, but on the other it's like every girls fairy-tale dream come true isn't it. I wonder how many of them read Fifty Shades and thought "I'd like a bit of that!".

The ending left me fuming though. The fact that he seemingly got away with it. But also wondering how much of this was real? He could easily just carry on uploading photos of his previous lavish lifestyle while rotting away in one of those crappy hostels he was apparently in. Everything else was a lie so it wouldn't surprise me... He seems almost as deluded as the girls he conned.

Now that his face is EVERYWHERE I sincerely hope he doesn't manage to pull the same thing on any other unsuspecting women. I'm also so surprised the women didn't ask once why his parents couldn't help? Surely they would throw all the security at their son if any of this was real?

I enjoyed the documentary, but part of me is a bit sceptical of the girls, yes I think they loaned him money but how much did the Cecile earn since from the new newspaper article and from Netflix? For someone that is bankrupt she is still going on holidays and living an extravagant lifestyle. I think she's earned back most her debt (and is hoping some / most of it will get written off by bankruptcy etc) and is using this story to earn as much money as possible - gofundme, appearances, Instagram etc I'm guessing gofundme is not needed with the Netflix and movie deal.

Pernilla too, they certainly love all the fame and income it will get them

Its a bit tit to have their money conned but i don't have much sympathy, particularly for the first featured girl.

Replace the first date invitation to fly to Bulgaria on a private jet after meeting in a snazzy hotel, with a date at a bowling alley with a proposition of a weekend away in Feltham via uber and she would of made her excuses and left, if she even turned up. They all wanted his security and a nice lifestyle, which isn't necessarily a gold digger, but it clouded their judgement.

It’s when people (men) crop their pictures at the forehead just before it would have shown that they are bald or balding and teeth fished is when pictures show only closed mouthed smiles. I read a story on the other post of someone who then showed up with only five teeth 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I guess the second girl was the biggest witness to how real it actually was. But that was the 150k he had taken from the first girl so it’s not so implausible. Specially since he is estimated to have defrauded women of about 1 mUSD.

I’m extremely perplexed by the Finnish mother. Could she have thought that now that she has a child, she only has moral obligations towards it to give it as good of a life as possible, not caring who gets conned along the way?

I watched it and it reminded me of an English scammer called Lee Laidler from Durham who scammed ladies he’d met on match.com back in 2007. I think he got sentenced to two years or more, for scams on a much smaller scale. It’s all searchable on Google if anyone is interested.

I knew one of his victims and met him. I knew instantly he was dodgy but the victim was blinded by the thrill of a rich man being her boyfriend. His lies were ludicrous but she couldn’t see past him. She ‘d argue with me that everything he said must be true! He claimed to go deep sea diving in Iraq for duck’s sake 😂

The police only got involved after he tried to scam a bloke out of his sports car.

At first I thought you met him as in your dated him but now I understand you met him with the friend he was dating.

For Simon I saw on one of the girl’s instagram that there is an update to come this week concerning justice, I took it as perhaps one of the Scandinavian countries having decided to press charges.

Oh god no. Yuck he was extremely unattractive and very overweight (another clue he wasn’t be a professional deep sea diver - you need to be below a certain size). If he wasn’t pretending he was rich he’d have never got a woman 😂

This photo was posted 62 weeks ago and made me wonder if he did get the surgery he was wanting, as he looks quite different ...

But then in this one - posted 38 weeks ago - he looks as he did on the TV show:

It probably means nothing though - he'd definitely be the sort to mix up his photos, to throw people off the scent of where he is and what he's up to.

I wondered - when the third lady was selling off his clothes - how many of them were genuine designer labels. We knew at least one of his watches was fake ... maybe his wardrobe was too?

Seems someone else had the same thing happen (that's definitely not my comment):

Also, yesterday when I was looking he didn't follow anyone; now he follows "Kate Konlin" who must be the Israeli model the documentary mentioned. She's also in his latest "story" sitting in the back of a car with him.

Was anyone else left wondering what the situation was with the "mother of his child" who apparently testified against him in court in 2016, but then was traveling with him in 2019?

It really pisses me off that this guy seems untouchable! Whose funds are propping him up at the moment?

Yes! The documentary never actually cleared up whether he genuinely did have a child with this woman and why she seemed to be aiding and abetting his crimes after apparently being a victim herself.
