The Tinder Swindler - Netflix

What a crazy story! The journalists were good as well, also loved the lady who managed to sell all his clothes. Did laugh out laugh when the producer asked her if he knows who told the airport about the fake passport and she said no but he does now, hi Simon!

I still can’t get my head around the 1st lady who went on the private jet with his ex and child on a first date. That must have been awkward surely? I know they chatted in the car after landing but imagine turning up to the jet and his ex is there straight away. I agree that they should have covered why she was there in the first place after testifying against him years ago.

Simon in general just gives me total creep vibes, so full on straight away. Some of those texts almost made me turn it off

Was the ex-partner and child thing true? I couldn’t figure that bit out.

From what I could tell, yes they were genuine.

But, and this is where it gets a bit curly - there were three (I think?) women who testified against him in court in 2015, who sought and were awarded name suppression. But the journalist found out who they were and ran the names past the first victim in the documentary, who instantly recognised one of them as being the mother of his child. So what happened for her to go from pursuing legal action to suddenly saying how wonderful he was? Maybe she joined in on the scam later down the track?

Good to see the real family have laid a complaint about him using their name:

Didn't the documentary state at the end that there was no evidence that the diamond company was involved in anything dodgy? This bit from the above article would suggest otherwise:

I think "Simon" is playing with fire by even coming to the attention of this family. This is like a TV show unfolding before our eyes!

I keep reading a lot of comments confirming he is still on Tinder.

What I don’t get about it all is the news articles? The ones he sent to the girlfriends like the woman who jumped off a bridge but he thinks she was pushed. Were they made up articles or what he had just kept to use? Like surely he didn’t go all the way to fake news articles and proxy internet sites. Very weird and so frustrating he’s just got away from it Scot free. If the new photo posted above is actually him now I think he’ll struggle to find new victims - he doesn’t look attractive at all, very feminine.

The Leviev family will be *hating* this scrutiny.

I wonder if they are wishing they didn’t gift the women money as a kindness for being scammed in their name, back when they were first informed this was happening. I imagine it could have included an NDA, dressed up as simply not wanting to bring their good names into disrepute. It might only have taken gifting Cecile £500k to make it all go away - loose change to these people. You know she would have contacted them when she first realised she’d been duped to confirm he wasn’t a family member. Who knew what a juggernaut it would become.

This was a good watch. Only criticism is I think they missed an opportunity to shed light on certain aspects like love-bombing. I don’t know if it was how she was portrayed but the first Norwegian woman still didn’t seem very clued up. Ayleen was awesome. I can’t imagine that young Russian girl gave him any money. Tbh I think he’s more into men, women are just an accessory or ATM.

yes and also why some women are susceptible to the ‘one day my rich prince will come to rescue me’ fairytale, beyond a love of Disney. Women are fed this nonsense far beyond childhood (eg Carrie and Big in Sex and the City) and then society blames the ones who fall prey to it without acknowledging the bigger picture.

absolutely I feel like young ones should be thought this and watch these shows and made to love themselves. Love comes first and if the partner happens to have disposable income or comes from wealth to treat their other half at times then lovely but it doesn't mean the person will be any happier than finding a solid amazing connection with someone and live a working class life. Unfortunately people these days seem to idolise IG posers showing off luxurious items and seem to think they need that too.

I'm almost married and still would never ever take a loan out in my fiancé's name! Or any sort of credit card for him to use.

Especially sums I absolutely knew I couldn't afford to pay back if we broke up. Let alone if he just disappeared to another country. Even a genuine relationship can break down and you end up paying the bills alone.

I don't blame any of them at all I just struggle with how naive the first girl appeared. Pernilla ? sorry if I've misspelled, was duped and she was just a friend ! Hopefully young girls learn something from this! Especially those who idolise influencers.

I literally just said this to my fiancé! We have been together 7 years, have a house together and are getting married in October and there’s no way I would take out a loan for him or let him use a credit card in my name for large sums!😂

I feel awful for them, I’d feel so sick if this happened to me. The first girl was very naive though!

That was true (see my link above).

I don't think he's attractive either (even without knowing the back story).

I do see what you mean, but if they did that it might be seen as their acknowledging they had somehow played a part in what happened - which they didn't.

I also doubt a family like that would give money away just like that ... they sound like scary mobsters (my words) - see my previous links.

I imagine this is the tip of the iceberg, too - I daresay there are many more victims out there.

She's an intelligent woman when it comes to her career, but I agree she came across as a bit ... well, lovestruck. Ayleen was great! I still wonder if the designer goods she was selling were genuine though - at least one of the watches wasn't. I wouldn't like to think she could get into trouble for selling something that was counterfeit.

I think certain women just get to enjoy the ride - like the young Russian girl and his now-girlfriend. It's the career women who he targets.
