The One

I finished it a few days ago. Not sure if a second series would be a good idea ... maybe a two-hour episode to tie the loose ends would be good though.

i agree, i was under the impression that there will be just 1 season and then on the last episode i kept thinking there's not enough time to wrap everything up. but i do feel like it's not enough for a 2nd season? we'll see

i couldn't help but like rebecca for some reason, i wanted her to get away with everything and be happy with matheus. i don't know why

I am on Ep 4 and I really think they have made Rebecca too unlikeable. She is almost cartoon levels of "evil" but is also cardboard. It is not enjoyable to watch really.

Mark and Hannah are an interesting story if only because I wonder how within like 2 days? Megan and Hannah appear to be SUCH good friends. It seemed very intense very quickly.

edit: I just watched more of the episode and I'm sorry Megan, someone you barely know is ignoring you and you track them down? This isn't realistic at all.

I just started watching it and it's interesting

It's an interesting setting tbh, and I was wondering how they'd deal with someone who might be matched with a person of the same gender or the pressure on couples

I assume a lot of it gets dropped in later episodes for the main plot though

I was planning on watching this as I enjoyed the book it's based on (The One by John Marrs) but I really haven't heard anything good about the Netflix adaptation. I was also interested in watching Soul Mates (the two shows sound pretty much identical?) but I've heard that's a bit of a dud too. Hmmm. To anyone who has watched both, which is the better show? Or are they dissimilar enough that both are worth checking out? From the reviews I've read it seems that maybe neither show is worth the effort.

The woman who played "Rebecca" was the same in another series she was in a few years back ("Betrayed") ... I just don't think she's a very good actress. Stunning looking lady but blah ... as someone said in the IMDB reviews, she was very "wooden."

So I'm some 6 episodes in and while the premise is sort of interesting the writing just feels bad

Echoing the whole thing about Rebecca not being likable, but I think that's intended. It just makes the whole thing a bit of a pain to watch and I wouldn't say any of the other characters are very likable either
I hate this whole thing about 'have we met before?' when they meet their match. It's cheesy. Plus none of the characters seem to be good liars (like it's painfully obvious they're lying) other than Rebecca and even that isn't 'perfect'. The whole thing isn't suddenly based on 'she feels off' it's 'oh I know she's lying'

bit of a rant here ~
Also, world building wise what bothered me is the fact that there is no realistic way this matching system would work. You're basically depending on 'your match' being in the database they have consensual access to, which may not be the case. So then do you just sit there and wait? Or does the system match you with the next closest thing? Based on that first idea, there's literally no way that the company could have gotten big to begin with because the data accessible to them would have been tiny.
It feels like the concept would have worked better as a Black Mirror or the way someone mentioned Soul Mates work

Did you enjoy the series? I'm not sure how I feel about it right now, mainly because of her character.

Overall, no. And spoilers for anyone who hasn’t finished although very minor ones!

The main character is cartoonishly evil but in no way as the charisma to match that. Why does anyone like her when she is so awful and seems to have zero positives?
The plot holes are massive throughout as someone said above the whole idea exists on shaky “science” and they don’t address the massive issues this has which makes it obvious they are hoping you don’t notice. Megan becomes more mental as the series goes on. And the idea that people meet and instantly are like “I love you” even with the genetic aspect is insane. They lay it on way too thick! Megan even says she wouldn’t break up a marriage but then Mark is her match so oh well it is totally fine 🤷‍♀️. I feel like that could have been well done though, in fact everything could have been done well if the writers had given more that a second of thought to it.

The Somali woman is the most interesting character and she has one line, one scene and we hear her back story from someone else but her character already sounds better than half of them.

The book is meant to be better though!
