The Crown - Netflix

I think focusing on the future makes more sense. It’s The Crown not Elizabeth II. The beginning was obviously about her because she was front and centre, Charles and Di took headlines in her middle years and her later years were all about her grandchildren, specifically William, who will be the future of the crown.

any idea where about it’s supposed to stop? I can’t image her death is mentioned although it might get a card at the end.

Just watching the final episode now

Brilliant final episodes, Imelda really gave a great performance as the queen. She really captures her in her later years.

Jonathan Pryce has the gravitas for Prince Phillip even though he may not be super like him

The final episode, especially the second half of it, I found quite moving. And how they handled the final scene was spot on. And Prince Philips' final speech had the ring of truth about it. A fitting end to the series in my view

I get that but also the Queen was The Crown until last year so her becoming a supporting character in a show about her job has at times not made sense.

I think part of the issue is she just got on and did the job and not a lot actually happened directly to her for a large chunk or her reign. Much of the drama surrounded her, especially in the 80s/90s

For me The Crown is completely about QE2’s reign. That’s the whole point. She had a unique ascendency and time on the throne. Never to be repeated. She was, also, pretty cold and reserved and only really developed the full respect of the general population after her golden jubilee.

I was really moved by how they portrayed Margaret and Elizabeth’s relationship, Lesley Manville was brilliant. The ending broke me actually, although I felt it was a bit rushed from Charles and Camilla’s wedding straight into the ending there could have been a couple more episodes between them with more added in imo. I’ll miss knowing there’s more to come from Claire Foy, Olivia Colman and Imelda Staunton in this role.

I'm 4 episodes in, and would just like to say that I am entranced by Blake Ritson's enormous, soulful eyes. I think he is wasted in the role of Eton Housemaster, and I would love a spinoff where he plays the Keeper of Swans or one of those other ridiculous roles in episode 6, so I would get to see him tending birds with broken wings and other acts of soulful beauty. *sigh*

Blake Ritson pops up in quite a few things. Currently in The Gilded Age and I think I first noticed him in World Without End

I noticed him first in Upstairs Downstairs, in which he played the glamorous Duke of Kent. I think The Crown has declined and fallen too far to attempt spinoffs, but old George Kent deserves his own show.

Saw on insta last night the Ella Bright is playing young Kate! Shes great in mallory towers so nice to see her in other roles.
