The Crown - Netflix

The Mohamed Al Fayed episode was very interesting and the actor playing him did a great job.

The tampon conversation was surprisingly tasteful considering. I'm warming to Dominic West as Charles.

Agree that Imelda Staunton is just not right for The Queen. She's almost there but not quite.

I'm finding the actress who plays Diana is just too thin and rangy. She's a bit nerdy looking. It's distracting and takes away from Diana's attractiveness.
To me tampongate actually highlighted the bond between Charles and Camilla. Relationships breakdown and people should be able to move on and find happiness. Normal life.

I kind of thought this… not ideal (understatement 😂)re the cheating but the love is clearly there. They’re being very good to Charles in this series I think, he’s coming across very likeable imo

They spent a fortune recreating Diana's wedding dress too, but only had that in for about 2 seconds! They fo seem to have spent more time on the first 2 seasons really drilling down into the characters.
Such a waste! Diana was a fashion icon, so was Margaret back in the day and we are seeing NOTHING! Such a waste! Has Fergie disappeared, I have 4 episodes to go and she was only in it for a quite part not speaking.
This show had such promise and it annoys me how I feel it has tanked since series 3.

I don’t remember tampongate and assumed it was much, much worse. But it was just a cheesy, lighthearted conversation. I actually thought it was sweet too and it makes me think they’re probably a good couple, as their conversation was very natural and easygoing.

but I know dh and myself would have a flirty inner couple chat that belies our middle aged 20 years plus together status that I'd hate the outside world to see/hear. Must have been absolutely humiliating at the time though. Were they the original hacked celebs. Was it really an accident or did it give the likes of Piers Morgan a gateway into what came afterwards.

I truly believe The Queen should have allowed Charles to marry camilla when he wanted to back in the 70s. Diana could have gone on to marry who she loved and still been with us today. Tampon gate was just a cringy conversation between to people that should be together. The truths that have come out about the Bashir interview, someone needs to be held accountable. Plus she wasn’t as innocent as she made out. Julia Carlings life was turned upside down by Diana chasing Will Carling.

Yip, when you really think about that conversation was none of our business. How dare anyone tap into someone's phone.
I think it’s a bit like the reaction to nude photos of young actresses being stolen. Once upon a time they had to apologise (Vanessa Hudgens being an example) whereas now everyone knows it’s theft and a huge invasion of privacy. There are some things where we’ve come such a long way in such a short time - particularly with empathy!

I know what happened to them, and it was still shocking that they showed it in so much detail.
Me too, it’s something I’ve been quite interested in in the past and so have done a bit of reading but yea.. I was actually very surprised they showed it in such unrelenting detail, I felt really shaky afterwards and I’m normally quite solid as a person! You just can’t imagine how utterly terrified they were 😔

There is a docudrama series on Netflix about the czars
I'll look that up. It was part of my History A Level a million years ago.

My son is off sick from school. He likes a bit of Crown (although hes not as keen as he was for season 1). I was on the tampongate episode but I was too embarrassed to watch it with him, so I told him we should watch the Romanov one because hes doing GCSE history! I'm sending him in to school tomorrow, so Ill backtrack!

I think it was the Queen's mother who insisted he married 'correctly'

I read a book about them years ago, it was brutal
