The Archers

9 months down the road Pip and Stella will have there own little bundle of joy Toby is a typical drone only good for one thing and soon will be chucked out of the hive . Rosey will have a sister Honey
My thoughts exactly. Ridiculous scriptwriting. Didn't Pip and Toby share a bed for ages whilst remaining celibate? They didn't appear remotely drunk after the barbecue so difficult to believe they'd suddenly start fancying each other again. Pip desperately trying to prove to herself that she isn't gay - very cliched.

I hadn't even considered Pip might get pregnant from her little tryst with Toby the other night, but it's a soap, so of course that's gonna happen! It'll probably be a boy too, considering Tom had twin girls who may get married and therefore may lose their Archer name in the future, so Pip needs an Archer who'll stay one and hence the name of the soap can remain intact!

I thought David and Ruth took it pretty well. I didn't expect them to reject her obviously, but I thought they'd be a bit more shocked given Pip is 30 and has never having once mentioned being interested in women before.

I wonder what Jill's reaction will be, or Peggy's. Actually is Peggy still alive?
Is she still living with Pat and Tony after Jenny died? Literally no one mentions her ever.
Jill's best friend, another silent Carol Tregorran, has a lesbian daughter. The lawyer who helped Helen.

Peggy never lived with Pat and Tony, she lives at The Lodge with granddaughter Kate .. I’m not quite sure but after the actress who plays Peggy retired I think the character of Peggy moved into The Laurels.
Jill lives at Brookfield with David and Ruth [but had a massive hissy fit last year and flounced off to live in The Bull for a short while after Ben got Chelsea Horrobin pregnant]. She back at Brookfield, was actually mentioned last week on the night of the barbecue at Brookfield: the night that ended up with Pip and Toby in bed together.
Oh forgot to say when she flounced off to The Bull she took the majority of the pots and pans and other kitchen utensils with her and proceeded to take over the kitchen at The Bull .. of course she did 😜

Was it not auntie Christine in The Laurels?

There's a bit of a backlog of oldies building up whose deaths will have to be dealt with fairly soon or it will be too unrealistic (lol 😂). Peggy, Christine, Carole, Jill. Actually they've been reverse ageing Jill since she got together with Leonard. A while back, before she moved back to Brookfield to live with David and Ruth, she was presented as very doddery.

Not forgetting poor Robert Snell, as the actor sadly died a while ago now. Not that he was terribly old.

Oh, yes, I'd forgotten they hadn't done anything about Robert Snell yet. Jim and Oliver I don't include in the silent / near death category just yet as they are very much still engaged with the community and feature often in storylines.

Agreed, Jim and Oliver are excellent characters. I like Leonard as well. I wish they had a few more interesting older people with opinions and interesting backstory such as Mrs Antrobus or Nigel's mother.

Oh yes I loved Marjorie Antrobus and Julia Pargetter.
Here's another wierd thing - doesn't Julia's companion, Lewis, still live at Lower Loxley but has been forgotten? I think he used to manage the art gallery before Russ.

Totally forgotten about Lewis. He wasn't a character that was very distinct and he would probably have been more memorable in a TV prog. with a face and clothes and mannerisms. I feel the same about Hannah and Stella - both very vanilla.

One of the things that's always bothered me about The Archers is how some characters just disappear with no explanation. In TV soaps, characters are either written out and leave the show, or some explanation is given as to why they're absent.

In The Archers people just stop talking and often stop being referred to, but because you don't hear anything about them you have to assume they're still living in Ambridge.

I understand it's partly caused by actor availability (or lack thereof) because The Archers is never a full time job for any actor, hence they have other work. But I still think they could do a better job at managing the cast and kill people off/announce they've left when it's clear the actor isn't going to return.

It's really irritating isn't it? Makes me think I'm going a little mad sometimes 😂
There are a few just off the top of my head -
As previously mentioned, Lewis.
Dr Richard Lock who moved back a few years ago and rented the Grundy's cottage when Hazel bought it and evicted them. Never mentioned again.
Wayne - Fallon's father. Does he still work as chef at The Bull? So strange she never ever mentions him.
