The Archers

I find it really annoying how suddenly he has all these symptoms. I feel it would be better if they did a more subtle job. So many people mask their autism I’m not necessarily a harmful way. I’d love it if he was accepted for who he is and people were just kind to him because he’s always so sweet. A world away from the brad in the background of the old days Tracy Horribin.
---
Speaking of which, that was another really snobby sneary thing the writers did. Always portraying Tracy as a tart and her two wild chavvy kids Brad (presumably after Pitt) and Chelsea (her version of Brooklyn)
Yes they have completely changed speaking Brad to the silent Brad. Silent Brad was a useless quite sneaky layabout that everybody rolled their eyes at. No mention ever of him being a quiet kind clever conscientious child. Even though Tracey now says that is what he was like.
Also there was that wierd bit when as a silent, he forged solicitors letters to Phillip Moss claiming money for the Grey Gables fire (or something like that). Of course that is never mentioned now in this rewrite of his character, and he had never been in trouble with the law prior to breaking in to Grey Gables with George.

Ooh well done Henry standing up to Rob.
Protecting his brother Jack.
Yep, Rob showing his true colours the minute things stopped going his way.
He definitely hasn’t changed.

Didn’t he and his mates also steal and get drunk on Jazzers home brew when Jazzer first got together with Tracy?
The quiet studious boy we now know as Brad is the total opposite to the Brad we used to occasionally hear of!

I haven't listened for a while but I started again recently as it's something for me to listen to on my walk.

Thought Rob sounded his usual twisted self and it was a bit unrealistic that no one happened to see him. George's concern seemed genuine, but I thought he was being written as a non sympathetic character, I can't keep up!

After the events of the Friday night episode can I ask a question.
There are dozens (hundreds possibly) of comments on Facebook that posters are victim blaming (Helen). To expand people are entirely in agreement that Helen is victim of coercive control and will probably never get past their devastating effects, however some are commenting that before Helen ever met Titchener they found her character arrogant and snappy; it is the upshot of such comments that their authors are being accused of victim blaming.
OK, personally I regard this as commenting on an entirely different event in Helen’s life and can’t see for the life of me that this is victim blaming, do we have to like someone because they are a victim?
Thought I’d ask you guys how you judge the situation, really don’t want to get into it with the Facebook mums who (IMO) are far too stubborn to listen to a differing view.

Helen is a horrible character. I mean a good one but thoroughly unlikeable. It was a stroke of genius to have such a horrible individual the subject of coercive control as it make her a sympathetic character which seemed almost impossible tbh. I think it is possible to thoroughly dislike her and still have felt sorry for her. She didn't deserve what happened, but she is still bloody awful. I don't think saying she is a foul individual is victim blaming.

(Btw I'm in an Archers FB group and am always on the point of leaving as one moderator in particular is ghastly - ruling the roost and being appallingly rude to anyone who disagrees with her. Archers Anonymous).

Slight derail of the thread. I used to listen to The Archers until mid 2021 after I had a baby and it took up my life. Is there a back catalogue anywhere online for me to try "catch up" or should I just not bother and just pick up from whatever is on BBC Sounds? 😂

Mm interesting - I'm not sure if there is a a blog or synopsis anywhere to keep up with things. There should be though shouldn't there?
What was happening the last time you were listening? Was it after the awful pandemic monologue episodes?

Haha! The monologue episodes were awful!
The last thing I vividly remember was Alice going to rehab when she was pregnant. 🤔

Take a look at the BBC Radio 4 pages for the programme (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qpgr) and scroll down to the related links section. There is also a wikipedia page and an official fan club page with synopses and links to previous episodes.
Thank you! I'll have a browse!

I've been listening to the Archers since in the womb and rarely switch off or take a break, but just had to reach for the off button during the pandemic monologues. Am pleased they came up with something to tide over though, and didn't just call a day on the whole programme. God knows why I keep listening as there are only a few characters who don't irritate me these days.

Helen is an horrendous person, a real cold type with little or no concern for others.
She has both family and friends pussyfooting around lest they upset her!
She and Rob are both narcissistic and that perhaps was the attraction and was probably the reason why Helen at first didn’t notice how toxic Rob was as she shared several of his traits herself.

All day long, and I feel an almost humorous irony in that Helen rode over anyone else’s feelings .. and then she met her match 🤫

Correct! This sums Helen up perfectly.

…. and Helen refuses to accept George’s apology, I expected nothing less, he was doing OK until he effed it up by intimidating it was all about getting his job back.

Oh Helen oh Helen is there any hope for you, I’ve never liked you but do not wish for you a lifetime of looking behind yourself and expecting the worse; yet it seems you explode with anger, know you’ve gone too far, want to make amends yet go straight on into making the next drama, will the cycle ever end.

I’m interested in hearing what Emma has to say about this, hopefully it will not be in terms of [in a whiny ultra defensive tone] .. “…. of those Archers, who do they think they are, won’t even accept an honest apology blah blah blah blah …. “
Why do we even wonder why George is like what he is🤫. As I said hope to hear better from Emma.

I actually like Emma 😬
She's interesting anyway. And she has a reputation (according to George) as a slut but I think she only has had two boyfriends. Granted they were brothers which isn't ideal 😂 She can admit she is wrong which I am fairly sure Helen never ever has.
