Just adding to the discussion of women playing 5 sets. I'll be honest I actually get bored sometimes of the 5 sets men play at slams and prefer watching the womens matches instead. Especially when it's the earlier rounds and players I'm not invested in.

I have to say after watching yesterdays three sets was enough. I'm exhausted just thinking about both matches going five sets today and not sure I have enough snacks in!

I agree. Also, best of five only applies to the grand slam tournaments anyway, the men play best of 3 as well for the rest of the season. And honestly, the early rounds don’t need to be best of 5 imho. Seeing how number 175 of the ranking and some lucky loser fight it out in a five hour battle only to lose in the next - not sure we need that for every tournament or for the women as well. And I completely understand the logistic nightmare that would bring, it would mean that men and women wouldn’t be able to play the tournament at the same time. Which is one of the cool things about Wimbledon etc.

I’ve seen some arguments in favour of BO3 until round 4 for everyone. BO5 quarters onwards for everyone.

I haven’t thought about it too much but I like the sounding of it. Would get through the earlier matches quicker, potentially get more on the show courts which for Wimbledon helps with rain and outside delays. Potential for less injuries if the grass isn’t getting battered for as long, maybe less fatigue so the grass court season can be extended which I’d be in favour for. & could throw a few spanners in on the men’s side if they don’t have the option for a 5 set come back.

I agree, that would be a good solution. Can’t see why it wouldn’t work 🤷‍♀️

Hahaha. That was a bristly interview on the BBC just now with Djoko.. "are you going to ask about anything other than the crowd"... walks off...
LOL I was going to say that whatever happens today, Novaxx will make an absolute ass out of himself, even if he wins. Love that his pathetic little hissy fit the other day now haunts him 😂 you get what you give, Fakeovic

Anyone else get a bit *eye roll* at ‘mini-break’? Getting one point ahead doesn’t warrant special terminology 🙄

[plus ‘mini break’ makes me think of spa weekend in Wellyn Garden City]

Very salty. He was lucky, having said directly to the umpire "duck you, you piece of tit."

I generally like Medvedev, but that was disgraceful.

[and having watched it back, I actually don’t think that ball had double-bounced. It looked like he got his racquet under it before it touched the ground a second time, but it’s still no excuse]

Anyone know why Medvedev’s nationality isn’t on the scoreboard? Is it a follow-on from the ban on Russian players, to avoid publicly acknowledging Russia?

Agreed that ball didn’t bounce twice, don’t condone him speaking to her like that but it’s the semi final, she can’t be getting calls that wrong on a break point.

Yes, they still won’t show any Russian flags, think they don’t show Belarusian flags either.
