I’m not judging her. I think it’s incredibly hard. I just think the responsibility lies with her to do what’s best for her children. It’s solely her responsibility to keep her children safe from all kinds of harm.

Of course it’s her responsibility but being abused isn’t a choice. It’s not something she can control. If she left, she wouldn’t go far because of her mum, so what happens if he finds her? It’s not fair at all to say that she hasn’t done what’s safe for her children when we don’t even know the full situation. Charlotte may have been in danger and while her children could probably sense this, it doesn’t mean that her children are in immediate danger. She may have thought it best to seek support and advice before fully leaving and making him more angry.

Also, you say it’s charlottes responsibility, but Connor is their dad, why is it not his responsibility too? Seems like you’re victim blaming. As a dad, you should be a better person than to abuse your family. That’s on Connor, not Charlotte.
