No, they were not in a school for behavioural problems. It was a school for students with special needs which is not the same thing!! They both have severe dyslexia and he has ADHD.
I know they’ve said this is the case but you don’t get put in residential school for dyslexia or adhd. They 100% have other additional needs I do not believe they’ve been given placements in such schools for that reason

That’s not true - there are quite a few residential schools for severe dyslexia. As the parent of children with SEN, I have come across other parents whose children attended schools like this at conferences I went to.

Happy to be wrong in this case. I know this field professionally and in my area you would 100% not be given a placement in a school like this with dyslexia. Obviously I can’t speak for the whole country though and I’m glad angel and her bf got the specialised schooling they did, she seems like a smart girl

I don’t know what your job is but I am well used to local authorities telling people that their child won’t be able to get a place in a specialist school - and it’s because they don’t want to pay for it. It seemed like you were saying that residential schools for dyslexia etc don’t exist but they do, honestly.

It often requires the parents of the child to go to tribunal because they are the only ones who have right of appeal of provision set out in an EHCP.

I also have a friend who went to a specialist school for dyspraxia. He lives a ‘normal’ life now.

I just know how hard it is to get a place in these schools and I’ve never personally seen someone with dyslexia alone be accepted. I’m a nurse but I work with the local authority re schools in my current job. Like you say it’s funding related and most of the time (where I live anyway) they will not pay for someone to attend with a diagnosis of dyslexia alone. As I said I’m happy to be wrong and I am glad in other places these kids are getting the placements they need

They’re both local too where I grew up. There was a school in my town that was a specialist school for students with dyslexia etc. a girl from my school got put There as she was struggling with mainstream so much

🙋🏼‍♀️ hi me again, the one that has a story for everything for some reason.
I have dyslexia, runs in my family and mine was that bad I was still on nursery books in year 4. I got accepted to a specialist dyslexia school for the last two years of my primary school however it was actually a normal mainstream school just they had a specialist “base” for people diagnosed with dyslexia but could only have about 8/10 diagnosed attended the school. LA use to pay for me and the other to get taxis there and back.
Luckily for me within those two years I was able to catch up to then go to my local main mainstream high school to be back with the original people I went to primary school. Even when the dyslexia school told me to go to a specialist high school.
😞 found out recently they got rid of “the base” at the school which I’m really shocked about but they do exist
