Not being argumentative, I'm genuinely curious as to what people see so different about being abroad. If something terrible were to happen I think it's unlikely you'd be able to make contact with friends/family anyway at least until you were in a safe place and presumably your means of help would be the people in your immediate vicinity, which would be the case regardless of where you are. Granted I wouldn't personally go to Dam alone or even in a group of all girls but I have been abroad alone plenty of times before and don't think doing that and socializing with other holiday makers is any different, and as a single mum if I were to take my daughter abroad I would likely be on my own with her, as many single parents are.
