Thought it would be good to have a thread to discuss this iconic character.

Superman first appeared in a comic in April 1939!

Which means..

I think it’s amazing how this character has endured for so long, and there’s a new Superman film in the works.

So I guess this thread is to chat about the new film, but also to discuss other Superman media people have liked. (I loved The New Adventures of Lois And Clark, and used to read the comics in the library, the late 80s and early 90s stuff, some really fun stories!)

Who was the best Superman?

Why do you think this character has endured for so long? Would love to know what people think?

Or just any other man of steel chat!

And if anyone wants to get deep, Superman is a brilliant example of Alan Moore’s theory of “ideaspace”. Part of it is that fictional characters live on independently of their creators, because they become such a big part of pop culture, and the collective. Other examples are Robin Hood and Sherlock Holmes.

This blogpost explains it more clearly than I can.

That should say ”the collective consciousness“
