It is pretty convenient this has popped up the day after the Alijaz sticking plaster was applied, I'll give you that. Like, we know Strictly isn't all rainbows and roses, but then there is a big difference between not enjoying your experience and having the basis for a legitimate formal complaint.

I've been watching properly since 2018 and was only half watching in 2016-17. Is there anyone in this recent past that we think had a pretty bad experience or reason to complain?

Ithink Nigel could possibly complain about the ‘rumours’ that were banded about after he had to leave? I could think of a few others, but they are unlikely to risk their reputation or careers since , having seen the bile thrown at Amanda for having the audacity to do so.

Fions Philips was way before the time I watched, but I do recall her being open about her experience, especially in her newspaper column. Lulu didn't make a secret of it either, did she?

Just thinking, the 'one big happy family' line has been peddled since I've been watching, and can't really think of anyone who has rocked the boat. Off the top of my head, Vick Hope seemed to have a bit of a grudge with Graz after being booted off, and didn't Alexandra make some snarky remark about Gorka?

Yes! I think Alexandra posted something on twitter about karma when Gorka didn’t get a partner in 2019. I think they just didn’t get on that well. Don’t know much about Vick but I think she said she found the whole strictly experience very stressful.
 
It’s tricky isn’t it, because you throw two random people together in an intense setting, spending all day together, and trying to learn something new which can be frustrating and draining, plus the anxiety about performing live etc and really it’s a surprise more people don’t end up hating it. It’s pure luck of the draw if you’re going to end up in the Ellie/Vito camp and getting on like a house on fire, or the opposite end and just clash.

I think it’s very obvious there was an issue with Gio that went bigger than just a clash of personalities, hence the formal complaints, but I think they have to be very very careful about casting the net too wide, and facing a barrage of complaints from people who simply didn’t get on that well with their partner.

I think Alexandra hadn’t been too impressed with Gloria’s flirting with Gemma and she’d been the one that wanted to concentrate on the competition. I think Gorka seems a hard person to get along with though he did well with Helen

Yeah I think I remember reading something about that, fair enough. I thought most of Gorka’s partners seem to have got on quite well with him though, especially in the last few years.
 
When will they start announcing this year's contestants?
The pros will be rehearsing before long
We all like to see who has a chance, or a massive advantage already, who will be the entertainment and when best to plan loo/tea breaks

Then their the pairs guessing to see who's lost out before it even starts.

I think that sums it up for me also. I'm not as long watching as some on here but I gather there were personality clashes, in the past, and that's kind of inevitable imo. But whatever went on with Gio and Amanada (among others) does seem to be more than that. I stress that I don't know - obviously none of us do - what exactly went on.

Was it James Jordan who said there's no smoke without fire? I hate that phrase, because there absolutely can be smoke without fire. I'm thinking of one particular real life situation I am aware of, and as I said, yes, there absolutely can be. I did grin though at the thought that he might regret that phrase if someone came knocking on his door to ask him about allegations 😉.

A duty of care seems to have been lacking in relation to celebrities and indeed, the pros too. This may be a wake up call, and it's just a shame that it had to happen the way that it did, when there should have been measures in place to make sure that something like this couldn't happen.

At the end of it all, it is meant to be a sparkly bit of light entertainment on winter nights, to cheer us all up. I don't want to think that anyone is genuinely suffering in the background for that.

Was Alexander the same year as Gemma? Was there an issue with gorka dating?
