Not necessarily, that is how dancers and athletes train. It's the reality of the world they are in. To be the best at a sport you need to put your body through a lot. Its probably why sports people were less fazed by it.
Should he adapted his approach, probably (depending on the partner). But I would say the producers and BBC have a responsibility to set out what to expect to contestants and dancers (who are also new to teaching). Being a pro at something, doesn't mean you can teach it
