Not unrelated, but I was listening to Helen's 5live show yesterday and she was interviewing Eve Muirhead about her retirement - she was saying she can now go skiing because that's one of the things you can't do as a professional athlete because of this risks - and reading this you've reminded me that Katya not only goes skiing, but goes down the slopes balanced on her mate's shoulders Never thought about it in the context of being a professional dancer before.
I'm so anxious about getting ill or injured too. Not just missing work/study, but the stress of just not being able to do every day stuff as well
I think snowsports are a common one for athletes- the F1 drivers I’m sure aren’t allowed to either and even if you were, I can’t think the risk is worth it to your livelihood (I remember that awful reality show The Jump where everyone seemed to get serious injuries).
I’m probably quite sensitive to bikes/mopeds as I have bikers in the family. I get it’s a moped not a full bike but if you fall you skid on your skin/flesh and not to be graphic, but that doesn’t last long. You can end up needing a limb amputation. There was also a young girl nearish to where I live who sustained life changing injuries in a moped accident in SE Asia. Having been there the roads are pretty chaotic, add in lots of tourists out for a laugh and it feels like an accident waiting to happen.
Maybe Katya is leaving Strictly. Therefore under no obligation to refrain from dangerous activities.
Of course, she could be. I love Katya and I’m enjoying seeing her off living her best life. But I imagine whatever she does in future would likely dancing.
