Interesting that the ringer aka Layton has been given the technically hardest dance in week one. I’m torn on that being totally unfair on him or unfair on the others who will get it further in the comp when the judges are more bothered by technique- kinda handy to get it out of the way in week one when you can get away with it

Yes, it's not like Kelvin and Oti doing Samba week 1 and it bringing the shock factor. With Layton it's expected to be good, be a bigger shock if it isn't.

First look at the 'hilarious' moments in training. Angela and Kai seem to be getting on well. Les's moves are yikes!

Love Nancy's "You wish" 😅

I guess there's zero chance of a 'journey' narrative for Layton so they might as well just throw tricky, eye-catching stuff at him and he can at least elevate the overall standard. Remains to be seen how viewers will respond.

I was going to say Nigel might be not quite as good as anticipated but I'd forgotten he had Katya. I don't really know anything about him and I didn't watch last week. He has a theatre background but does that necessarily include a lot of dancing? He's 50 now and middle aged to older guys don't typically have the best arc on the show (other than comedy characters and Bill Bailey!). They're usually pretty forgettable. He might have a good dance tonight but I don't know about every week. Unless he's brilliant and memorable I could see him getting eclipsed by Krishnan (funny/a trier), Les (comedy contestant), Eddie (good mover, great connection with Karen), Bobby (the 'cute' one) and so on. Katya should be able to make their routines memorable if he has the skill to match.

I'm on the fence about Nikita/Layton. I'd like them to perform well, and Nikita to produce incredible routines the way he did Tillie's Halloween dance or the exciting elements Katya works into her routines. I'm just worried about side by side dancing and more exuberant club moves woven into the choreo which eclipse the defining steps and sequences of each style of dance (most couples have been guilty of this at one time or another, I'm not singling Nikita/Layton out specifically!).

If I'm honest I think I prefer the different characteristics, silhouette and frame of a man and woman dancing together. I don't care about sexuality, be who you want. Dancing doesn't have to be romantic (for the rumba employ some acting skills or skip it altogether). Plenty of Strictly pairs have managed to sell their TV partnership as a friendship, it's great fun to watch! It's nice that contestants get a choice of male or female partner based on their preference however.

Sam, bless him, has a shirt with Zara's picture all over it! 😄

Nigel will be very popular with audience and if he can dance then hes definitely a contender to go far in the competition. Im rooting for him and Katya.

That’s the thing isn’t it, Strictly is a bit of daft of a weekend. It’s about the celebs and pros putting on variety show out of their comfort zone and if being in a same sex partnership makes them feel a bit more in their comfort zone, then fair enough. My Aged Relatives will be voting mainly for Layton (and putting in the adoption papers) because being 80-90 odd years old and having grown up with a gay relative seeing someone who is just unapologetically themselves makes their hearts happy.

I feel nervous now! want Vito and Ellie to do well but worried about the jive. For the others I don't really mind but expect there to be a lot who are pretty good.
