I'm hoping that this year we don't see a 9 or 10 paddle until waaaaay, way into the competition. Last year the marking was ridiculous with celebs and pros acting crestfallen as if a 7 was a death sentence due to being given stupidly high marks so early
I think that would be my main wish really.
None of the 'Daddy's fine, he is sorry for letting you down by not getting a 10 every week' kinda thing.

Noooooo!
Paddles may need to be confiscated from some of the judges! 😁

I'm probably the only person who is fine with Contemporary, it feels artistic to me, whilst Jazz is classy and performance based. Street on the other hand just feels tacky, the pros usually look bad dancing it and the judges have no clue how to judge it so you're always guaranteed 8s and 9s unless you really mess it up. It doesn't belong on a ballroom show.

I think the problem is the pros don't know what they're doing with contemporary either so it's really formulaic and kind of cynical. Always starts or ends back to back, always has the pulling and pushing away move, rolling the neck with hands at the head to symbolise turmoil, bit of rolling about on the floor like you have gas, some sort of big lift and a twin leap like spawning salmon. You can pretty much predict the routine before it even starts.

Theatre/jazz on the other hand is fine as it's just something anybody with general dance training has done or can pick up if they're a celeb.

It’s a dance show, it is all styles

Strictly contemporary is meh (apart from Ashley Roberts), but it did give us this gem 😁

I like contemporary when it’s done properly. Ashley’s was amazing and I enjoyed Karim & Will’s too, but unfortunately most (maybe none) of the pros are trained in it. Janette was and I also think Pasha was too which is probably why their contemporary dances ended up being so good.

I will only allow couples choice if they let Angela Scanlon do Irish dancing for hers. And I think Jojo or Vito doing Irish dancing would be the best thing to ever happen. (not a spoiler or a comment with any logic behind it, purely just who I want her with)

I'd like Nikita to do Bollywood or another Indian style dance for hers too - I've wanted this representation from an Asian celeb ever since CC started and what with Nikita representing the BBC Asian network, it wouldbe perfect.

ashley’s contemporary was outstanding - probably the best CCs ever (imo). but it was arguably two professional dancers doing it!

like you say, so few pros are trained in it and they usually always fall back on the reach out! jump! pull away from me! reach out again! style which is just boring.

Yes to this! Literally any of them with any form of cultural dance from their background should be allowed to do it as their cc especially since they’re claiming there’s no rules or categories anymore yet they’re all “street” dances that look exactly the same. Also would love to see another fusion style pro dance like the bollywood one last year where they had professionals in that field in to dance with them.

Vito, going by his insta posts, is pretty spectacular at contemporary.

The arm reaching out and the pulling it back with the oh so earnest face really gets on my bloody nerves.

Yeah Ashley was technically a professional lol, one of the best ever contestants for me her charleston was amazing. It’s the same with street dance, only Karen and maybe a few others can pull it off.
