I don't understand how he gets away with the things he says in interviews. It's like he thinks nobody can see what he actually posts. Although for some reason he never gets called out on it.
 
He’s so transparent and yet thousands of ladies are taken in. It’s like the Rose stuff - a fantasy of settling down and making babies with the makeup-free girl next door when in reality his type is plastic and enhanced

The thing with Gio is for me, it is his fans interpretation of him I find annoying. Gio and love of the Insta ladies and labels doesn’t bother me; but, the fans thinking he just needs a good girl next door type to tame him does. He is very good with the older lady, he knows how to keep his target audience happy.

Watching the clips of the Strictly tour - Jowita really does seem to stand out. She pairs really well Nikita and Vito. Vito really is a stunning dancer.
 
I didn't watch Strictly when Gio first started. What was he like then? I always thought he had sleazy waiter vibes when I started watching in 2018. Was everyone here generally icked by him from the start or has he morphed into the Gio we know now.

My overriding memory of his first series is how sweaty he was! I’m guessing he has Botox or something to control it now, but when they were standing in front of the judges after each dance he’d be absolutely reeving in sweat.

So yeah, ick from the off for me.

I think the smoking doesn’t help either; I remember Alijaz always looked drenched in sweat and he was a smoker too.
 
I don't remember being icked by Gio at the start, but he always had a bit of an ego, remember Len telling him off for shaking his head at the judges' comments. Then there was "well done on yer spins" where he left Laura standing there like a lemon while he showboated across the floor 😁 I thought he was fine with Debbie, Faye and Michelle, the ick started to set in for me with the showmance with Ranvir and the way he copy and pasted it with Rose. I would have more respect for him if he just said "look, I'm a fanny rat, and I like being a fanny rat", but I guess that wouldn't go down well with the ladies of a certain age who defend him to the death 😆
 
The only things I really remember about Gio's first couple of years was Georgia dumping her boyfriend for him at the end of that series and the famous spins the year after 😆

Ngl, I really liked him and Debbie together as the pretend showmancing stuff was very tongue in cheek, he seemed to be having a great time and did some cracking routines.

I think since then his lothario persona has overshadowed everything else a bit too much

I confess I fell slightly for his showmance with Ranvir (it was lockdown, what can I say??) which then made me very cynical of him subsequently. That, combined with the BAFTA going to his head, and the instababe action has just soured me on him completely. The fact that he seems quite uninterested in Strictly now also contributes - the other male pros are generally much more excited about everything.

I did a bit with Rose (for shame) although I was never a shipper and everything I've seen or heard about him since has put me right off him.
 
I didn’t used to mind him in an eyerolly, watching him play the fans sort of way … but the way he was with Ritchie really irked me. A celeb gets one shot to be on Strictly and he found himself with a pro who really couldn’t give a monkeys basically because they turned out to not be as good as he wanted. If the worst thing you can find to say about your celeb is that they are too enthusiastic, then Brendan would like to see you outside to show you his clips of Lulu.

if anyone should get the Apology Christmas Special Win, it’s Ritchie.
 
Gio didn't necessarily give me the ick when he started but I failed to see what people on Digital Spy and online thought about him. The macho style of guy just doesn't have any appeal to me. I will say that I liked his work with Faye & Rose but both were very good partners for him to get. And in 8 series, he's not really lightened up (except for a couple of times with Debbie), again not very appealing.

The flirting is OK in small doses but I think that schtick had ran its course after Ranvir. It's like any pro, if you see the same type of dynamic with them year in, year out, then they get boring.

As for last year - well, you're entitled not to like your partner and it takes two to tango in most bad partnerships. But his whole demeanour seemed a bit above the show for the entire series, even at Christmas. And it was insanely rude to not put anything on social media.
 
I also think he's inconsiderate of his colleagues. He must surely know, having been through the process of being a new pro himself, that Lauren has to develop her own identity on the show. So why did he poach her for his tour again rather than letting her do the main stuff that gets her in with the main Strictly audience and producers?

I feel like she's got plenty to offer to the show, but with no live tour and probably no pro tour for her first two years, not having a partner her first year and possibly not her second, her chances of having a decent run on the show are dwindling. That's even less exposure than Cameron had.

I know that she didn't have to say yes, but still...
 
After seeing the pro tour at the weekend, it feels like it would be such a good vehicle for her- as she’s a native English speaker and funny/chatty she would also be likely to get the Dianne/Neil narrator role too. It would give her a chance to develop her own identity out of his shadow.

I slightly feared that something might happen with Rose (because history) but it soon came pretty apparent for different their lifestyles/values were. Plus his performance with Ranvir and then antics with Maura gave me the boke, and I always felt for Georgia, who (admittedly naively) got swept off her feet thinking it was forever and got ditched pretty brutally.

ETA: I’m so glad Vito had a lovely scandal-free first year with Fleur to set him up on the show. Not saying he’s remotely like the Fanny Rat, but this just further highlights it.

Oh, there have been some doozy partnerships where people haven’t got on, but I think especially in the earliest days of the show when the celeb is so out of their normal life in every way it’s down to the pro to at least act like they are happy to have you as their partner … especially when it was a partnership they had requested. As far as I could tell Ritchie was trying and was doing what was asked of him with enthusiasm and not being sulky and stropping off, he just wasn’t the best. Gio just seemed like he was doing the bare minimum and not even bothering to cover it up. When you have to go on ITT on week 3 or thereabouts and talk down the camera about how you are getting on really, then hove just entered the minefield and blown yourself up.

If he looked around him, he could have seen how Karen was dealing with a really trying partner and followed her lead.
