Was Dianne gutted to be kept in or what? I mean I don't blame her. We've seen pros break down being voted out (again Dianne and Nancy last year) but to be saved...

Was nice of Ange to mention Nadiya.
Her dad’s been very recently diagnosed with cancer and started chemo a couple of days ago. She was visibly upset the week it happened. So that coupled with the adrenaline of the dance off was likely the reason…

Sorry ladies, I just don't get the Nigel adoration. He's pretty good but has messed up more than one dance now and his reaction to the comments doesn't do him any favours. It's not like he's the only one to get negative comments.

As much as I agree it was more than Angela Rs time to leave I thought what she said after being eliminated was really nice. Yes she spoke for longer, but you could argue she's considerably more eloquent than a lot of the celebs and better at talking on live TV!
---

Where is the drool emoji when I need it?

The clucking over Nigel does my nut in. It's how he reacts to comments that actually creates the issue (and he actually received some really nice comments on Saturday). And I don't mind saying it, but I thought he acted like a right arse during that IG clip, coming through the doors, turning his back on Katya and walking off. No one else would get away with that, let alone fawned over and extra votes given.

I don’t begrudge celebs for their natural reactions to being frustrated, disappointed or pissed off but I can’t help but think of the vitriol Layton would get if he did a Nigel. It would be brutal. But that is the curse of the ringers. Show your excited, you’re showing off. Show you’re disappointed, you can’t take criticism. Perform well, you are too good to be on the show. It’s not fair. Perform badly, we expected more of you. Show your gutted at being in the bottom two, sob story. Mention any relative, alive or dead or mention anything about your childhood, sob story. Had a hard week? No you didn’t, you’re a trained dancer.

Think I’d rather be a duffer. A lot less pressure!

Bobby - Some bits were pretty good, and others were pretty not good, he's very inconsistent. Dianne's choreography was boring af. Her Ballroom choreography is better than her Latin and she can't even get anywhere with that because of the height difference. Just a partnership that doesn't work.

Angela R - It was nice enough but her time to go. Shame Booby didn't fall into the dance off last week, they could have gotten rid of him then (and we'd have still had Krishnan this week!) I'm worried he may get a bounceback vote. Still, hopefully wouldn't be enough to get him to the final.

Layton - I hate Couple's Choice. It was OK. I don't think the whole concept worked very well and I wish they'd done something else, something more theatre/jazz than commercial. I mean I don't want to complain about the pole dancing bc it was hot af, but pole dancing is really the sort of thing that looks pretty underwhelming when not done by professionals. And really not helped by the baggy leather. It's a real shame that walkover backflip-y thing they were trying to do didn't work out. Made the whole routine pretty anticlimactic for me. But it was a bit stupid of them to try it in the first place given Nikita's knee is obviously still a problem. Begging them to just do a nice slow Waltz or Rumba next week (and don't put a bleeping somersault in it.) I didn't really see the supposed sync issues Craig saw, but I'm glad it didn't get 40 because the backlash would've been yikes. Poor Nikita seemed to take it really hard though.

Also, I loved that Sara 'this dance is dedicated to the sacrifices my husband made for my career, now here's Aljaz in a bondage harness and chains' Davies was in the audience for Layton's 'this dance is dedicated to the sacrifices my mum made for my career, here's a pole dance in leather and corsets' routine 😂

Annabel - Pains me to say it because I've mostly found her boring throughout, but it was probably one of the best dances of the night. I thought she looked a bit better in the camera blocking, and was noticeably nervous on the night though. Johannes' choreography is generally hit or miss for me, it was a hit this week.

Ellie - I don't like most Charlestons and I didn't particularly like that one but it was objectively good. I liked the lifts. Not quite 40 good, but then again, routines with small mistakes have gotten 40s before, so I wouldn't have been mad if she'd gotten it. I wonder what anyone's going to have to do to get a 10 from Craig this year?

The running joke about Vito's food metaphors has officially reached the point of being Very Tiresome. I believe it was genuine the first time after the Paso Doble, that he was tripping over his words and talking too fast because he was so excited after the unexpected 10s, but now it's obvious the bleeping dumbfuck producers want to make it into a bit and milk it to death. Are TV execs actually aliens? Robots? I refuse to believe they're real humans.

Angela S - That's the sort of Argentine Tango choreography I like (and wish Layton and Nikita had had *sob*) but it didn't completely blow me away, other than the move at the end. Maybe mostly because I hate the song. It was still really good and Craig can duck off with his 8. Aww, Carlos! 🥺 And Nancy crying as well, so sweet.

Nigel - Yeah, there was a noticeable mistake but the judges didn't have to be such dicks. He covered it better than in his Foxtrot and Cha Cha too but they still harped on while ignoring or glossing over other people's mistakes. I probably wouldn't have even noticed it if I wasn't looking for mistakes. That said, it wouldn't have been 10 worthy imo even without the mistake, I thought he looked a little stiff and his frame a little wobbly throughout. No way in hell was it a 7 though, the scores were ridiculous. I don't know if it's a confidence thing because the judges keep being so hard on him, but I'm starting to wonder if he did peak in week 1 and just can't cope with the length of rehearsal time. I dread a possible disaster with 2 dances in the semis. Beginning to think maybe Angela S should make it to the final instead of him. Layton, Ellie, Nigel and Angela S were my desired finalists from week 1-2 anyway.

Overall I didn't really love anyone this week, and feel like the underscoring last week looks even stupider now. Maybe if they gave them more time to rehearse and less time doing Compulsory Fun on rollercoasters they'd have a better show.

I don’t like the emotional blackmail on strictly, some one dances in tribute to a family member who’s passed away or is very ill is essentially a free pass into the next round.
Its like the Repair Shop, seems you can only get on that if you’ve got a sob story to go with it.
Its terrible when you lose someone or someone you love is unwell but it shouldn’t be used in this way in my opinion.

Yes I agree.
It puts everyone in a difficult position. Judges, public. All seen as utter heartless bastards if they are critical.

Oops the daily fail has now made an article about Nigel although they have made something out of nothing. I defo think it’s hard to keep a fake smile when it seems the judges are more harsh on you than others who have made mistakes.

I started a thread on DS slagging off the singers. It’s not gone down well, one person has posted telling me that maybe I should offer my services if I think I could do better. I don’t, but don’t claim to be a professional singer either. Literally everyone else everywhere thinks the singers are tit. Still a strange place

I've posted agreeing with you - especially the female Hayley (?) She is dreadful. You could literally go to any hotel or cabaret club in Blackpool and find a better singer than her

All this "it not easy to sing that range of modern music" is total mince. Again, cabaret singers can sing loads of different stuff

I wonder if Lance was dumped cos he was too well known - he tours with Anton - and that someone got the hump (Tommy)

The singers are the weakest part of Strictly

A pretty accurate summarisation!!

This. Imagine Layton (or indeed Ellie, or Fleur last year) spending their post-dance VT with a face on banging on about how they’d messed everything up. Audiences would be calling them out for trying to manipulate votes, and telling them to get over it.
Nigel has been in showbiz for 30 years and seems unable to take critique. And the judges weren’t mean! They just pointed out that he’d messed up a bit. I don’t think he’s doing it on purpose (though it is having the desired effect of getting him more votes, which again wouldn’t work for a woman/POC contestant).
Anyway he’s got another good song this week so maybe he’ll ace it this time.

I think Ellie would get the same response Nigel did because she’s likeable - the only acceptable thing for a woman to be on Strictly. If it was Angela R or Annabel then they definitely be torn to pieces. Similarly, Nigel can show upset at the feedback because he’s a handsome straight white man. Bobby would probably get the same allowance too because he’s young and most viewers find him sweet and helpless whereas Layton would be attacked and labelled arrogant within seconds.

I love Strictly but there’s very clear biases that I actively have to ignore at points to allow myself to enjoy my frivolous Saturday night entertainment.

(Also, I don’t mind anyone being upset at negative feedback because I think that’s just being human. Even being in the industry for decades doesn’t necessarily prepare anyone for taking criticism on live television with no time to privately process it before putting a game face on. However, I totally agree that there’s a clear distinction in who is allowed to be frustrated and who’d be torn apart for that.)

The audiences reaction to a privately educated, middle class, white man who had his first TV role aged 8/9, went to theatre school and has extensive musical theatre experience really does very accurately show their unconscious bias. He is every bit as much of a ringer as Layton, probably more so as he was doing this way before Layton was even born, in fact he was in the original cast of Mama Mia when Layton was only 5 years old. Layton works his arse off, Nikita added that photo the other week of him heading off to training before 7am, and delivers with every performance. He expresses gratitude for feedback, is everyone elses biggest cheerleader and he gets slated with people saying he shouldn’t even be on the show. Nigel will probably win because lots of people feel bad for him because he can’t take criticism and is not demonstrating any resilience despite the fact that he has been in show business for 42 years.

All the sympathy white middle class Annabelle is getting following the death of her husband, remember the vitriol Alexandra Burke, whose mother died days before strictly, got? She probably used strictly to distract herself from her grief too, worked her arse off and delivered with every performance and she got relentlessly trolled.

Like @jfletcher said above. My frustration isn’t at Nigels reactions, he’s human and is clearly very frustrated and disappointed as he wants to do well. My frustration is with the double standard and really obvious bias that the audience shows.

I didn’t realise Lance has been dumped! I assumed he’d left of his accord. He has a really good voice
