Angela absolutely had to go, she was the worst by a long long way last night. She got to Blackpool, we knew she would so mission accomplished. I don’t think it would have been much different if she hadn’t done the group dance but she looked out of her depth.

I am kind of surprised it’s Bobby she was up against. It could have been a case of people voting somewhere else thinking he’d be safe or maybe he’s just not as popular as I thought. I absolutely don’t think it had anything to do with the order of the dances because surely opening the Blackpool show doing a high tempo jive and not looking completely like a tube man would mean more votes for him? That looked like every other jive I’ve seen Dianne choreograph to be honest. And I know she’s having a tough time so I hope she copes with being in the DO as it could be a sign that Bobby’s coat is on a shoogily peg.

It was a high scoring night but I’m not surprised Nigel is through.

I think we saw more of Sara Davies last night than we did when she was on it! Rumours Tom Fletcher was close by with an emergency clothing package are unconfirmed.

I’m wondering if my excitement button has been removed, I was just not feeling it. A lot of really good dances but it was just a bit…meh. Maybe I need to start smoking crack like Anton.

I thought Nigel was going to lose it in the Clauditorium. He frustrates me a bit because I like him and think he comes across really well but it’s like there’s an amazing, carefree dancer in him that can’t find its way out. His frustration could have came from the Judges pretty much saying to Angela not to worry about her mistakes when his are spoken about in depth every week.

The standard was high and I think Angela R was a good way off the rest of the pack. She must be knackered, I’m still recovering from the length of the first couple of shows so god knows how she’s feeling.

I think the best dancer of the night was Angela S, I actually watched it again and enjoyed it more the second time because I knew she wasn't going to duck it up 🤣

It was the only dance that was close to worthy of a 40 out of them all. She should have gotten a 39 at least.

I enjoyed Ellie's dance too but I actually agree with another poster here that it was a bit "stompy".

She's been a brilliant dancer since the 1st show, but she hasn't been on a "journey".
I always know that her dances (and Layton too) are going to be exciting to watch - definitely finale worthy
Ah I think she has been on a journey, definitely a more confident dancer, growing into herself etc. And not to forget the journey to Vito’s [redacted]. I’d argue Hamza didn’t have a journey either last year in the traditional sense - he was very good from the start, his series-winning dance was Week 4, but he also grew in confidence etc, though he flagged near the end .. it’s just that he seemed much more like a typical ‘journey contestant’.
Oh Gemma. Good night then?

Now Rippon is gone and Knobby has been in the dance off I feel much happier about my blood pressure for the rest of the series

Still a bit baffled by the “poor little Nigel” vibe. He’s a professional performer so should be used to taking criticism.
I think tough weekly critism would wear on anyone, especially when there is an air of favouritism with the judges.

None of the dances were perfect this week, even Ellie's was brilliant but heavy footed at times but it's only Nigel (and Angela S) that gets his ass handed to him. You either give fair critiques to all or none. I think if the other celebrities were pulled up more on their errors it wouldn't weigh in him so much.

Like they totally glossed over any of Angela R's, Ellie's and Laytons... And tbh that actually doesn't help either of them! You need direction and critique, especially if you aren't getting the 10's because it's obviously a case that something needs improvement.

He made mistakes (like everyone bar Angela S imo) but he was seriously undermarked.

Bit random, but how many VTs has Layton done now about being from Bury, and yet Ellie (also from Bury) doesn't get to mention it. I know it's probably because 'Lancashire lad becomes west end star' is a better VT story but I wonder if Ellie feels miffed she doesn't get to claim it too 😂
Dont worry we still have Ellie and Vitos's couples choice - the north V south mash up: The Bury and Salerno fusion

That's exactly it, imo.
On the one hand, for most of them it's 'oh you made a mistake over there but it doesn't matter'.
In Nigel's case, was it last week, either Motsi or Shirley thanked him for not making mistakes... 🥴. Certainly, at least three out of four of them last week used the word mistake, even in praising him.

I think last night they pretty much ignored all that was good, and went straight for the mistakes narrative with him, yet again. The only other one who has had similar criticism, on other nights, is Angela S. I imagine he and Katya came off the floor last night thinking they had done at least as well as some of the others, until all they heard was MISTAKES and then they ended up second from the bottom on the leaderboard. 😕

So exactly as you said, you either give fair critique to all or none.

I made the mistake of looking at DS and it’s all very handbags at dawn over there! From the way they’re behaving, you’d think this was life and death not us deciding which celebrity in search of a career boost gets to lift a plastic trophy next month - and that’s coming from me, a person who hasn’t shut up for seven years about how the guy from Hollyoaks didn’t get to lift that trophy!

Chatting Strictly on here adds to my enjoyment of the show so much because, even though there’s different opinions, this thread always manages to keep perspective and an excellent sense of humour as well as remembering that’s it’s all not that serious because we know what truly matters - shots of Nikita sliding down that pole 😉
