I think both the network and the show want to keep it as diverse as possible and I get the impression from looking at couples in dance competitions that there is a lack of black ballroom/latin dancers and they struck gold getting Oti & Johannes. Many Asians and some from Latin American backgrounds but not many from Africa or of African heritage. So their options may have been limited and they might have taken a gamble on Cameron thinking he'd grow into it. Even DWTS in America has struggled with this.

I'm all for diversity on the show and hopefully in the future we will get pro dancers from new countries/nationalities we have never had before but it seems that Cameron was recommended by Motsi and Oti and maybe Strictly rushed into his hiring without checking his full capabilities and really giving it a think.

On paper Cameron should be a huge win. He's the SA Latin champion! It just hasn't translated to Strictly.

I was reading all your comments about Karen unfollowing Jayde and I thought “yeah that’s fair, she likes to keep to herself etc” then I went on Instagram and saw Karen follows over 7,000 accounts!!!

That has to be a mistake unfollowing or Jayde did something really offensive.
Instagram can sometimes glitch and unfollow an account you're following so it's possible that might have happened and Karen wouldn't necessarily notice since she follows so many accounts. However, it's entirely possible that she chose to unfollow her.

Cameron explains here how he was recruited for Strictly:

How did the Strictly team reach out to you?

A guy called David John within the dance federation that I was competing in has believed in me since a very young age. He has always tried to get me into corporate gigs and corporate events. He was speaking to one of the producers on Strictly Come Dancing, and he put my name forward. And then the producers gave me a call. My parents were at work, but I needed to spill the beans to them and my mom was crying in the office at work!

In those behind the scenes articles that were in the Huff post last series, I think the producer said a bit about auditioning this year's new pros and said it was quite rigorous - something about having them do a pretend lesson for a crew member?

I guess because of covid they couldn't audition Cameron and Nikita properly so took a punt. Although from what other pros have said in the past, there doesn't seem to have been any set process - i think Oti said she did loads of auditions before she was offered a spot, but Gorka got a call a few weeks before the series started offering him the job without auditioning

It deserved Cynthia Erivo shitting all over it a la another Les Mis inspired tribute.

I’m pretty sure we’d have had this exact moment recreated too

Gorka came in the year that Gleb allegedly dropped out soon before the announcement for DWTS so might have been a case of dragging out a hunk from their list of names to fill the vacancy.

I think Motsi recommended Nikita though they might have taken a slight gamble there as his stint on the German version did not go as planned.

I know I’m a bit of a fangirl for her and she’s not everyone’s cup of tea on here (which is totally fine), but Rose got an Olivier Awards nomination for her play and I just think that is so cool, and really shows the platform Strictly gave her to launch herself into what she really wanted to do (which obviously wasn’t Eastenders forever).

Or Be The Keeper of The Double Breasted Wardrobe.

The Olivier Award nomination is smashing. The whole production sounds well thought out and put together and including people and expanding the audience is only ever going to be a good thing.

I’m howling at the keeper comment 🤣

Yes, it’s lovely to see. This is the other, more personal, side to Strictly’s focus on representation and diversity and I love them for it despite the millions of ‘woke fest’ comments there are every year.

ETA: this bloody clickbait 🙄
