Benching really ought to be a fair system where every pro has to do it. Okay, some pros are popular but how do we know others won't be if they don't get their chance to shine?

still gutted for Luba. She's a quieter, gentle female pro with a dry sense of humour who is clearly well liked. Why should she be constantly overlooked and put on the bench when there are pretty uninspiring pros who get a partner every year? I hope she doesn't leave and gets somebody really good next year.

Especially in the last 2 years when 90% of the male celebs have been huge!!
 
I think we may be being a bit too hopeful wanting Luba to get a good partner next year. No partner two years in a row with plenty of tall guys suggests that TPTB aren’t invested.

A poster on DS kinda summed it up with her & Neil - the show seems to like either giving newbies a try or using established, familiar pros. Neil & Luba fit neither so are in a bit of an awkward position.

I do feel for Luba though - since Cracknell was one of her 2 celebs, she should have had one more. Have a bit more to judge Neil on since neither Alex nor Nina were hopeless. They could have given Luba to Tyler and stopped trying to make Dianne happen.
 
I'm really, really hoping Luba sticks around and gets a partner - I really don't see what they have against her. She's gorgeous, an eye catching dancer and has never had a chance with a decent partner. At the very least, give her a bloody ringer for the Christmas special this year! What with 20 pros this year and probably at least a couple leaving, hopefully they'll be space for her in 2023

Neil - I don't really see what else they can do with him. I know Alex got to the quarter finals, but for me she's one of those who might have been amazing with the right partner rather than simply ok. And he got another chance with Nina last year and threw it away with a poorly judged routine or poor teaching, or both perhaps. Tbh, I didn't mind him on the pro tour, but there's something about how he comes across on screen that doesn't work
 
I am not so much a Luba fan as others, after she posted a glamour pic of herself on the day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine with the caption 'happy girl' and refused to condemn it until she and Katya were made to do that hostage-type speech on The One Show, itself a bonkers moment! I am a little surprised Lauren was benched as there seemed a lot of buzz round her but I guess Jowita had seniority in terms of getting a partner, and there was nobody else who might have been benched bar possibly Nancy..

I have no idea how Instagram works, I don't use it, I only have an account to stalk follow the pros. On tumblr you can put things in a queue that staggers the post times. Does anyone know if Instagram has a feature like that? If so, it might mean that she set it to post hours or days earlier. Or does everything on Instagram appear exactly when you upload it?

While I do agree that her posting was probably insensitive and bad timing, I don’t think it’s fair to hold it against her that she didn’t speak about it. Her home country was involved and it’s not always as easy as that unfortunately.

No there’s no post scheduler for Instagram as far as I know. At least nothing official anyway. Third party software exists but this would generally only be used by brands rather than an individual. Luba is a great dancer but as I’ve said before I don’t think they know what to do with her. She was originally just a choreography assistant that ended up as one of background dancers Then we got new producers and bam her and Neil ended up with Partners.

I don’t agree with this argument about Luba. You could say posting a selfie that day was tone deaf and ill judged but she doesn’t have to come out and condemn the war simply because she’s Russian. Citizens can’t be held responsible for the actions of their governments. I’m sure Luba moved to Italy at 12 or 13 so she’s not even lived in Russia permanently in 20 years?

I also think it should be remembered that many Russians simply don’t feel comfortable speaking out publicly against their government because it could put them in genuine danger, and this has been the case since the revolution in 1917. It’s a fear that’s ingrained in the culture and we don’t know what Luba’s family history is. It’s great that some Russian people were brave enough to speak out but I think to judge those who didn’t comes from a viewing the world through a very narrow western lens, and actually from a place of immense privilege. We take for granted living in a country where we can say whatever we like about our politicians. Not everyone has that right.

I get the point, but! she could have just stayed silent and deleted the post. As you say, it was tone deaf and ill judged. I have taken against celebs for a lot less! I think if people hate Amy for having mad eyes or Dianne for seeming annoying it’s permissible to side-eye Luba slightly..

I mean you do you but the day I look to celebrities, especially minor strictly pros, to be moral examples is the day I’ll know I’m done with society 😂
 
I laughed that Gio put up a heartfelt tribute pic to her maj AND found time to add a new girl. That’s muti-tasking!
Leaving aside the problematic politics of benched pros, does the fact the funeral is on Monday 19th mean that the launch show will be moved to mid-week (21st or so)? Or maybe Friday 22nd?
