Exactly. They are trying to attract different audience demographics, especially as its a multi generational family show. There are big names here, just I their specific niche

There once was a time when corrie or eastenders stars would be considered big names, but these days they would be more a 'who' as soaps aren't as popular as they once were. People have so much choice on what to watch these days, it's harder to get names that everyone will have heard of and/or like.

I remember the discussions about Joe Sugg being a nailed on winner and how it was so unfair that he was on with his legion of voting fans and being completely mystified because I wouldn’t have known him if I’d tripped over him 🤪

He has obviously been cast in his own right, which immediately puts him above Jo Wood, Jerry Hall, Penny Lancaster or Natalie Dell’olio (who was all kinds of fabulous but wasn’t cast because of her lawyerly skills) or even Emma Weymouth who was there to fill the ‘ach not really Royalty but look we’ve got a title’ slot.

I like Fleur East but I know a lot of people don’t and I think she has the same air about her as Alexandra Burke that people just don’t like, I think it’s that they’re too confident! Same with Maisie and I can’t stand to see Gorka standing there in the bottom two week after week again!! So in conclusion if people like Fleur East I want her with Gorka, if Ellie can dance I want her with Gorka because that would be the most wonderful partnership ever I think.

I just want him to have someone good, likable and who could potentially win, but who also isn't over the top and wont over do the flirting...I will not stand for "strictly curse" rumours around Gorka!
Not asking for much 😂

I loved Gleb. He was so beautiful, such a lovely smile. And so fit.

And when he was on Celebs on the Farm on Channel 5 he was so good, so sweet, and shirtless often enough.

And he was adorably useless on Celeb Masterchef, he held a place in my Strictly heart that hasn't been filled until Nikita turned up. Even AJ as much as I liked him never quite had my heart in the same way.

There have been a couple of years when the only Eastender/s was a ‘former’ … I think in Anita Dobson’s year she was the only one and an ex.
I think the year Abbey won was a completely Eastenders free zone …

Yeah, I don’t understand the ‘worst line up’ ever complaints that get repeated every single year - Strictly’s always had a significant quota of randoms, and who you ‘know’ is entirely a matter of what you’re interested in or aware of. I don’t watch soaps or ‘magazine’ shows like Loose Women, BBC Breakfast, etc., don’t watch many other reality shows; the only sport I follow is tennis; I don’t listen to much current popular music; my kids are the wrong age for CBeebies/CBBC, and so on, so last year I knew a grand total of 4 of the 15 contestants (Robert, Nina, Greg, Tom).

Didn’t have a clue who the other 11 were, but I don’t assume every SCD viewer has the exact same frame of reference as me.

So far this year I know 7 of the 13 announced, so in my ‘world’ it’s a much more recognisable line up than last year. You know what you know, other people know different stuff 🤷‍♀️
