Exactly, it's another headline grabbing partnership for Gio and it wouldn't be fair to get that after Rose. I don't know why he's exempt in their minds from getting a duffer when all other reigning winners have (the ones who didn't get one the year after winning got one 2 years after like Artem).

And Oti got what a lot of people thought would be a duffer the year after a win who actually turned out to be another winner (Bill Bailey)

damp squib that one - although I think he enjoyed all the VT’s in personal helicopters and fast cars😀

I've never for the life of me understood how anyone thought Bill would be an early exit. I assumed he was pretty much guaranteed to win, unless he fell over in every single dance, by virtue of being the biggest celeb by a very wide margin (I assume, based on my perspective as a non-UK viewer. I was astonished they got anyone that well known.)

True, but I'm still not sure it'd be enough to get him more than a couple of weeks further than his 'natural' exit point. But who knows, sometimes the votes do unexpected things (I never would have predicted Dan going beyond week 6 at the start.)

We took my mum to see Gio’s show as a belated Mother’s Day treat and he openly talked about how he is expecting to get a “duffer” this year and be out and doing the various specials that eliminated professionals end up doing. He seemed to know that’s how it goes after you win and sounded fine with it so it’s bizarre that his obsessive fans think he shouldn’t ever end up with a no-hoper.

There was a lot of quite ignorant comments towards him claiming Maisie was more well known despite Bills career spanning about 10 years before she was even born 😂 plus anyone who knows him and his body of work well knows he’s classically trained musician. He had the musicality and rhythm so was always going to do well.
 
I still can't believe they managed to get Bill Bailey to do Strictly 😆. For me, he's by far the most famous person to do it since I started watching

I reckon they thought he would get past the midway stage and be a bit of an Ed Balls type contestant who would give Oti a good run but would ultimately lose out to a better dancer (probably thinking/hoping Janette would go out on a high in her last series)
 
I think with Bill, they assumed the wee pop star with no vowels in his name would be a hit with the female viewers and he would walk it. But as people have said, with his musician background, I always assumed he'd have some rhythm and would be a complete embarrassment.

For me, Bill won it the week of Rappers Delight!!! I think a great majority of Strictly viewers (like me) know that song from the first time around (😳😳😳) and the dance was fabulous.

It always makes me a bit sad to see a pro I like have a 'wasted' year, but, of course I don't think it would be fair for some pros to be singled out for a ringer/contender every time.

Strictly survived The Great Pro Cull of Series 8 when it lost Darren and Ian to the newly formed pro troupe and Lilia, Matt and Brian took their bat and ball home All in one fell swoop.
Its survived Flavia and Vincent and Erin and Brendan and Alijaz and Pasha and even Kevin from Grimsby exiting early doors.
I think it could cope just fine with Gio not hanging around.

Never posted here before but tbh came running when I saw this!! The way he went on when on strictly got me wondering every week, he was far too close with Katya in my opinion and not something I’d have ever been comfortable with. Wonder if it’s something to do with that or if he’s done something since? I think he’s deffo cheated when you read the caption about him letting them both down.

Yes, she also posted a friendly comment on his pics a few days back. Definitely think she’s found something out recently and they’ve broke up because of it. Poor girl man, he’s never there to help with the bairn as he’s always away. I know a lot of dads work away so not judging really, but you know what I mean. He’s always off here there and everywhere, home for a few days then back off. He was even advised not to compete the other week and still went. It must have took its toll on her. Not to mention the humiliation during strictly last year when he was cosy with Katya. Hope she’s alright
