Faye Tozer should have won, she was fantastic in the final. I can get Ashley Roberts being a tad too ringer for the audience to vote as the winner but Faye losing to Stacey Dooley's terrible Showdance was really unfair. Joe Sugg probably also beat her in the placements (I say he was likely 2nd place whilst Faye was 3rd) despite being one of the most overrated finalists in SCD history.

I wouldn’t actually care who the contestants were as long as they were entertaining and a varied bunch.

I think Strictly has lost its spark recently though and it’s not the same. It’s so overly staged and produced, and about “journeys” and all that shite. It really lacks personality and authenticity for me; especially last series! It was just so bland. I don’t see it getting better unfortunately 🤷🏼‍♀️
I hate the « funny » rehearsals with them wearing a stupid costume, going somewhere else, playing pranks on each other… I just want to know a bit about the dance, how contestant is getting on, any issues with choreography…

I looked at Rose and Gio's there. Apart from the humungous balcony it is mostly him lifting her around with a super-romantic grin on his face and then a repeat of the Sacred Debbie McGee No-Hands Lift from her showdance.

But yeah, they are generally a bit tit. They have like two days to learn something totally new plus rehearse two other dances while shattered.

The Showdances have generally been a bit of a damp squib (with the exception of Bacofoil, obviously) and come far too late to make any real difference … but Couples Choice has made them even more redundant than they were before.

I'm convinced Kevin's showdance was what made them get outside choreographers involved in the showdances since then (and then have Jason Gilkison do them all last year) - no more egotistical pros going rogue with dumb choreography that half the audience couldn't see

Although we did get to see Kevin's face when Craig told him it was dogshit, so silver linings and all that

The old: “our dance has a sailor theme so I brought you to this ship” or “Our dance is set in a American diner so I thought I’d bring you to this American diner” VTs

Just show the couples rehearsing in the dance studio/rehearsal room, we don’t need to see them pissing about

fully agree.

they only really work for me when the couple picks a solid theme or uses staging really well - ore jumping on the drums, tom chambers doing tap or maisie’s christmas one.

they always end up lacklustre for me when the pro or whoever uses it as a “look what they’ve learnt!” Journey sort of thing where they throw everything into it and it becomes a mess. janette did that with hrvy if i recall, when he had the potential for a much better showdance in him.

the couples choice does make them pointless now.

edit: i will say a very underrated couples choice is gio and georgia with the blindfold. i watched it again recently and it’s gorgeous.

Last year in musicals week when Tom went to see his sister about acting and performing, ignoring the fact she is a singer who got lucky and is an awful actress/never had a days training in her life 🤣

Yeah, Carrie really was in the right place at the right time and when you put her next to a trained musical theatre performer, her weaknesses really show.

Very true re couple's choice. I used to look forward to a showdance to see what they could do with no holds barred, but generally we see that in couple's choice now and in Rose's case especially, a showdance just becomes very repetitive of content in CC.

although joe sugg did do a good showdance.

You guys are probably going to hate me lol but I am curious about AJ and Kai’s shows dance only because of how hyped up it was by her mega stans.

As the winners dance is a quick under-rehearsed aside in the launch show I cannot see that these folk genuinely think that an AJ & Kai Showdance would happen?!
