One half is definitely going to be Ritchie, that was said when he was announced.

Am i misremembering, but didn’t there used to be a lot more build up to where the the announcements were going to be well, announced before? It all Seems a bit … oh, yeah … there’s a Strictly thing coming up later … this year.
 
I wouldn’t actually care who the contestants were as long as they were entertaining and a varied bunch.

I think Strictly has lost its spark recently though and it’s not the same. It’s so overly staged and produced, and about “journeys” and all that shite. It really lacks personality and authenticity for me; especially last series! It was just so bland. I don’t see it getting better unfortunately 🤷🏼‍♀️

I don’t mind the line up; it’s been better in the past. It’s been worse in the past.
You never know who is good entertainment value and who is a crashing disappointment until the the show is underway anyway, so a seemingly dazzling line up might end up being woefully tedious.

For my sins, I recall being very excited at the prospect of DJJ. How wrong I was! Conversely, I had no clue who Danny Mac was yet he wowed me, and I had preconceptions that Faye Tozer would be rubbish, and I was very wrong there too. 🤷‍♀️

And literally no one could have predicted that I’d find Gavin Henson to be the most entertaining participant of all time. I was full on ‘urgh, that twatty orange himbo?!’ when I first heard he was doing it 🤣

I think it's a tad early to write off the contestants when there are still 7 (?) to be announced! Last year I only knew a few and had no sense that even someone that I groaned at when she was announced - Tilly: daughter of Gordon, kids TV person, never heard of her! - could forge such a lovely partnership with Nikita.
A lot of it is in the partnership chemistry, am excited to see how the new pros do etc.

Yeah, I’m not keen on the direction it’s veering off on, and I haven’t been for a few years now. I still watch it for the odd jewel that leaps out, and the occasional top-value contestant, but the social media showboating & Jason Gilkinson’s influence have not done the show any favours.

They’d have to find one that hasn’t had a shady post-Gladiators stint of drugs, violence, or general criminal activities!

I thought that about Strictly a few years back, so last year I actually avoided the Tattle and DS threads and had a lot more enjoyment in the series itself rather than about the goss behind the scenes etc. helped give me a bit of sparkle back - think I’ll do it again this year once pairings are announced.

I think my main complaint is that they try to take any nuance out … everyone is happy and jolly and loves their partner and Strictly is the pinnacle of their life, the hardest thing they have ever done and the training is like nothing else (even for multiple gold medal winning Olympians).

No one can have an argument without getting all manner of flak - the days of Jade stomping out of training and then coming back the next day to apologise to Ian with a hastily bought, cellophane wrapped, bunch of garage forecourt carnations are long gone. And worse for it.

Sixteen couples, training for upwards of 8 hours a day for weeks on end with just a bit of eye rolling … I think not 😎

I don't know why they don't want us to see any kind of friction between couples any more. Imagine if you were a pro last year and had to work with a really difficult celeb who made your life hell for 3 months yet still had to do the "we're besties, staying in touch forever" shite when voted off.

It’s far too sanitised.

The most entertaining bit of the whole of last series was Nikita whipping his shirt off.
 
I don’t think anyone actually buys into the everyones best friends narrative they try and push. If follow even a few of the pros on socials it’s fairly obvious that some are no more than work colleagues. It’s quite obvious which pros are actually friends with each other as they’re the ones socialising outside of dance. There’s obviously the ones who knew each other before strictly either from competitions/other versions/BTF etc bit I rarely see the pros going and supporting each other on their tours (admittedly there is some cross over but not so much so there couldn’t be one where they could go and show support)

As for the couples it’s glaringly obvious (at least to me) when a paring is working and when it isn’t. They’re never going to have a full on row in front of the cameras because it’s just unnecessary negative press or abuse online that will inevitably happen.
