Think she's going to win. Which is a bit meh - a bit like when Stacey won really, although Stacey at least did remember to smile in her dances.

Aw I like Helen! I think she comes over very well and seems funny on ITT. She just isn't always able to let go - that comes over in her poor samba but also in the facial expression in her AT. OTOH I think she could do a great, acrobatic showdance as she is super-athletic and a good dancer. Her jive was good because it just required being cool and snappy, and the CC will work, even without the backing dancers.

I'm not a Gorka superfan like others, but for me he has been an incredibly consistent pro over the years. He has rarely put together a bad dance and he seems to be really supporting Helen. Am torn between her and Hamza, even if I'm not massively invested in either.

I could be totally wrong but her music sounded quite upbeat and poppy which surprised me a bit as it made me think party Latin-based which she seems quite uncomfortable in- I thought she would get the ballroom showdance. I trust Gorka though, his Showdance with Maisie I just loved.

ETA- I’m still cross that Sophie Ellis-Bextor had a Showdance that seemed totally unsuited to her strengths.

Apparently it is to Shine by Emeli Sandé. I am not massively enthused by the song but hopefully Gorka and Arduino will work their magic

Going back to the days of either Waltz or Cha Cha would be fairer but boring af now there are so many couples and they don't split the first show over two days anymore. There were a few series where everyone did either Waltz, Cha Cha, Jive or Tango in the first week, I would go back to that. No speciality dances until Halloween at least, and definitely no American Smooth in week 1 :cautious:

I picked Helen as the winner before the dancing started, and I think she has a real chance with her dance choices. I'd be happy for her or Hamza to win, but I'm not really fussed about this series, it hasn't been a vintage year. The final should be good though.

I'd lean towards Helen purely because I find her storyline a tad more compelling and think it's Gorka's last real chance to win with all of the newer pros coming in. Jowita has time on her side (she will definitely win a series even if not with Hamza) though I wouldn't begrudge her & Hamza the win this year.

Regardless of whether or not it is Hamza or Helen who take it, I do think that neither would go down as a legendary winner for me, similar to Bill, Stacey, Joe. I miss the days when the Kara's, Alesha's and Harry's would win as the actual best dancers in their year who produced amazing routines. I suppose of the recent ones, Kelvin fits that category and Rose isn't far behind but I hope someone who really delivers top routines is the winner in 2023.

I agree I think this is Gorka’s shot to win. I honestly don’t even know if he will be back next year. He’s been in the final with two amazing dancers but they were amazing from day one and we know the public don’t like that when it’s a woman. He is incredibly consistent and honestly just seems like a joy to be around for everyone. I think he deserves a win.
Jowita does too but I think she will win another time.

I don't think being in the DO necessarily means the public don't like someone. Just that they voted for someone else, which could be for any number of reasons.

Like, Hamza and Helen are my faves but there have been weeks where I haven't voted for either of them because a) someone else needed my votes and b) even if they did end up in the DO, I thought they'd be fine.

I think Bill's win was pretty legendary. Not sure whether it was cause it was him as him or because Oti managed to win it 2 years in a row which was absolutely not meant to happen 😂

I've always thought that people high on the leaderboard should just automatically be safe, and the audience vote only apply to those lower down. I don't know exactly how it could be split fairly, especially in later weeks, but it always annoys me when situations like the Richie/Fleur dance off happen. At least Fleur should have just been too high up to land in the bottom two. I'm pretty sure the main reason she landed there that week is that she was simply overlooked because it seemed a given that she was safe. I'm not good enough at maths to have a clear idea of how I'd want it split (top half of the leaderboard safe for X number of weeks, with the percentage decreasing later on? only use that method up to a certain week then go back to the normal voting for everyone?) I don't know but I definitely think it would make things fairer, especially in the early weeks, if you didn't have to worry that voting to help out someone who's had a bad week could drop someone else who doesn't deserve it down instead. I don't think I'd narrow it quite so far as to have the audience vote for who to save out of the bottom 2 of the leaderboard, but out of the bottom *waves hands* some number smaller than the whole lot. But I think I actually would prefer it to be 'audience votes for who to save from the judge's bottom 2' than the way it is.

Yes, Bill is 100% a legendary winner. He was incredible and none of the producers suspected it 😆

He was indeed, and I love Oti so that made it even sweeter.

I will always remember Bill's speech - 'the show must go on' and that touched a chord with me, and I imagine thousands of others because of the pandemic, restrictions and lockdowns.

@Fillyjonk I just went back to look at Will and Nancy’s final dance (I was too busy laughing to see it properly last night) and just before they took to the floor, Will threw The Bucket Hat down beside Anton! He’s a wrong un.

I wonder what Claud was saying to Tess as they walked onto the floor. I’d like to think it was “thank god that mardy wanker’s out”.

And I still expect to see Karim running out the audience and inserting himself into the huddle.

In the absence of a towel, Will threw in the hat.
