How much do you think Helen has paid to not have her previous dance experience brought up by the rags? I see a lot of comments from people who think she's never danced before, so it's interesting how they've been able to keep this quiet.

i think it’s a little cynical to assume that she’s paid something for it. it just doesn’t go with the narrative that the media want for her - which is a wronged woman regaining confidence. bringing up her tap teaching past takes the edge of that and so, even if they know, i don’t really think it’s getting brought up. plus it’s not exactly front page news.

i do find the ✨previous dance experience✨ convo dull for any contestant though. imo it only becomes an issue if that contestant has legitimately danced professionally for a living (of which i think we’ve only ever had two or three). some viewers just get in such a tangle about stage school! being in musicals! went to a dance class once! and i’m just not bothered.

at this point i also feel helen’s scandalous tap dancing past doesn’t matter much, large proportions of the audience have already bought into her and her journey. the mirror could do a triple page expose and she’ll still be in the final i think.

I don't honestly care at this point. The slebs all have lessons when they know they're going on strictly. Yes so Helen might have had some dance experience - I think this was mentioned when she did a tap dance routine in one of her dances. But it was pretty poor so I'm not convinced her 'previous dance experience' is giving her any massive advantage.

They all have skills which give them an edge. Hamza is used to being filmed, same for Will and Molly. Fleur and Kym come from a reality TV background and will have experience of dance and working with choreographers. Molly was also on reality TV and can perform in front of an audience.

No-one left has come to this competition without an advantage.

I don't actually care about dance experience either - everybody is a beginner in ballroom, Latin and the speciality dances so it doesn't matter. It actually interests me more to see a trained dancer learning new disciplines sometimes.

I was joking with my comment about paying the papers to keep it quiet as a cynical take on how the public dislike people who've danced before whether it was a few trips around the maypole at a primary school fair or as a prima ballerina.

dw, i read your post again and completely missed the jokey tone of it so i apologise!

and the prima ballerina thing makes me think of that person on twitter who was convinced that maisie was a trained ballerina and shouldn’t be in the show based on one photo of her in a ballet class years ago. by that logic i’m a trained tap dancer!

i think a lot of the general public just don’t understand what stage school actually is, or that they think “doing musicals” means you’re a world class jazz dancer. a gifted musician (like bill for example) has just as much, or even more, of an advantage as someone who went to the now infamous ✨stage school✨

the only real unfair advantage we’ve had is ashley roberts imo. who was incredible and one of the best contestants we’ve had, but she was never going to be any different.

I think it's more likely they have to spend hours unlearning all the previous dance experiences because the technique is so specific for this show. I've slowly warmed to Helen, although considering she's a presenter I find her incredibly socially awkward at times plus her face reflects what's she's thinking which quite often is " what the f*** are you doing Gorka!"

Both your points apply to Hamza though! so it's clearly not about that (and I am voting a straight Vito ticket all the way :D) .. We do know that women get judged harshly for things we let men off the hook about - if a female contestant had been as mardy as Will and gone round saying 'I'm so emotional me!' all the time she'd have been crucified.

On another note, at least the remaining contestants now have TWO extra days before the semi-final (on Sunday!). The pros might even be able to take today off!

Jowita was on Strictly last year, albeit as a backing dancer.

I'm still laughing at Hamza and Jowita's reactions to his demonic crawl towards them. Jowita put her legs up like he was a mouse or something and Hamza went from mortified to looking like he was fighting the urge to pet him.

Unpopular but I’ll be real:

I quite like will and I have voted for him when his dances have been good.
i dont really see what anyone else sees tbh. I haven’t got the impression that he’s mardy. I just see a northern middle aged dad who is a bit overwhelmed by the glitz, glam and campness of strictly. I think he’s come out of his shell a bit over the course of the season like Kym has. The guy is 46 with a dad bod. to me I think, he’s a bit like a Helen. Probably doesn’t feel very sexy, especially next to a bunch of men with surf board abs.

that said, I am very clearly in the minority for most things strictly as I find hamza as full as dishwater to watch. He seems like a lovely bloke but I never find him entertaining in any way. I am always just watching Jowita who is an absolute super star.

What I will say, I never really vote for a “favourite”. I sometimes do, usually at the beginning but that’s usually cause I enjoy their dances the most, but most of the time I vote for the dances I enjoyed. I don’t vote for the pros I like either. For me, if you have a tit week and you go home then sucks to be you. I’m not voting to save the middle of the leader board or because I think they have potential or because they were under marked. I vote for who I like that week and that’s it. I don’t really care for personality either.
I voted for Tony cause I enjoyed his dances, when I didn’t like his dances I didn’t vote for him

My thoughts on Fleur , she’s a great dancer ( the best one left imo) seems like a fab lady. I think she’s not getting the votes because much of her career has been reality based. People tire of reality stars, me included. Molly hasn’t connected with the audience as well as she could have, I think her youth doesn’t help. Correct me by all means but the majority of voters are older and prefer a ‘ journey’ and Molly, as sweet as she is, is a bit dull. That’s where Helen hits the mark for many, she’s got much better and has a story to tell, one that many can relate to. She’s really going for it and people are rooting for her. Thats my take on it.
Agree. I think she's a cbbc presenter. Now my kids have grown out of cbbc, I have no clue who she is, even now we were st the Quarter finals, whereas Hamza is slowly a kids TV presenter ( I think) but his persionzlity comes through.

I don’t dislike Will on the level that people on here do, but I wouldn’t vote for him either. I would laugh if we were all too focused on Hamza/Helen only for Will to sneak up and get the win 😭
I don't dislike him either but I'm definitely not buying into his pretending to be humble and sooo grateful. I also think he gets irritated by Nancy and would happily shove her behind him and take all the applause for himself if he could! He often forgets to acknowledge her first when they are saved!

What I don’t understand is some people still moaning about Hamza being overmarked, he was 1 point away from being bottom of the leaderboard what else do they want 🤣 I think I said it last night but I think getting lower scores than usual has probably done more to help him than anything else, he’s had a lot more of a journey scores wise then people remember. He was getting 4’s and 5’s in the early weeks of the competition yet i’m supposed to believe he was the producers favourite 🤣
