I don't understand why the pros essentially need to give the celebs constant counselling. Surely turning up and teaching them how to dance and trying to make it a bit of fun for the celeb to perform is perfectly sufficient? Maybe I don't get it because I don't have a high level of emotional investment in colleagues but sometimes both parties seem over invested in each other.

It does seem to become codependent and unhealthy - probably partly because they spend too much time together. I think it's a product of the show becoming too serious with its insane training schedules, crazy marking and celebs buckling under the pressure to do well. Really should just be a bit fun.

i think a lot of celebs initially find the thought of doing something they aren’t terribly good at, live on prime time Saturday night tele is a lot and the pros basically end up as their Celeb Whisperer as much as dance partner. How many celebs this year have got the yips and completely forgotten all or part of the routine? Tony gave the impression that Katya was basically luring him out on to the dance floor with chocolate hobnobs.
Then there’s the confidence building up that they need to do after they’ve had a mauling from the judges or had a low score and the fact they have to get them back out again the next week. Carlos and Vito have had a complete baptism of fire this year having to build up Molly and Fleur after multiple trips to,the bottom 2. you can tell yourself it’s a positive vote, not a negative one and it isn’t personal or that people think you Will be safe and saved but it’s got to sting.

The relationships are definitely hothoused and imbalanced

When Carol Vorderman said on Friday that in series 2 she was told she’d only have to commit to THREE HOURS A WEEK training, it blew my mind! Now they spend most waking minutes together including for some meeting the family and when you’re doing such a close and intimate thing, it’s easy to see codependency happening.

I think I saw on Rylan’s story that he’s away somewhere to do something related to Junior Eurovision (which is apparently being held on 11 December). Follow me for more jam-packed-with-deets updates

The image of Katya luring a a hissing, catlike, deeply suspicious Tony out from underneath a sofa backstage via the cunning placement of Hobnobs leading directly to the dancefloor is one that will live with me for a long time, thank you for that.

One feels Jowita might sometimes have to do the same with Hamza (from their ITT chat I believe she would use Haribo as the bribe of choice). I'll need to watch closely on Friday to see if she is firmly shoving gummy bears in his mouth just before they walk out onto the dancefloor.

Do I remember correctly that they used to reference the number of hours the couples had trained on ITT?
They used to particularly in series 3 and 4 when it was competitive ’Sportsman’ heavy … but I think they realised that actively encouraging to practice all day and go without sleep wasnt a good look.

There is also the perception that training umpteen hours a day makes you better … when it doesn’t really. It can actually make you worse, reinforce bad habits and lead to injuries. The earliest 10 was given to Louisa for her second dance of a jive done on about 6 hours of training due to Vincent being injured.

I hadn't thought about this but it is a bit mad that the two pros having to do the ego-repairing and comforting this year are the two with no experience of this. Carlos has only just stopped performing, so isn't used to working with someone not at his level, while Vito strolled (literally) through Italian DWTS on the strength of his chemistry with his celeb. It's to their great credit that both seem to have managed to boost their partners and keep pushing through, even though neither will likely have suspected when they got allocated Fleur and Molly that they would visit quite as many dance-offs.

I hope both Carlos & Vito have more of a pressure free series next year with celebs who are in it for fun rather than being serious competitors.

BIB - I thought at first she was joking 😁
I thought then, they maybe told her that so that she would do it. 😁

But that was then and this is now. 😁

Oh BBC, you are spoiling us! What could all these treats be…
