I'm sorry but 10s have been given out like sweeties this year and now they're pretty much meaningless to the point where Tyler had to act like 35/40 was a disappointing score. I include my fave Hamza in this when I say 10s have been dished out waaaay too much - they need to be saved up until a dance really, really deserves it and Craig is the only one who gets this.

The consistently high scoring gets on my tits. They start high, and then have nowhere to go for weeks on end.

In Karen's ITT segment this week, I was surprised to hear that the first 10 (or 40...can't remember, but still) wasn't given until the second SERIES of STC...shows how ridiculous things are now.

Those lifts are kind of her signature she's done them a lot in the past with Michael.

Tbf, if Hamza can master the lifts that Michael, a professional, could do, then why not? Hamza's skill lies in doing lifts seamlessly, which the other male celebs haven't been able to do yet.

I'd object if Jowita's routines were otherwise poor apart from lifts aka Janette but they're not.

I certainly don't object to the re-use of lifts, moves, themes the pros have mastered. They pretty much all re-use stuff they have done before, Katya in particular has used a lot and when it comes to lifts and safety it is certainly a good idea.
With Hamza in particular the way he completes a lift and allows Jowita to seamlessly move out of it is his real skill, few other male celebs seem to be able to do this, they often appear to think muscles and trust is enough to get it done.

Craig's 10's do mean more to the couple's as he doesn't wave them around 'willy-nilly', obviously the 10's from the other judges still mean something, but as a viewer if I feel it is a 10 and Craig does too I know it was ' fabulous'.

It'll get to the point where Shirley, Motsi aind Anton are giving every man and his dog a 10 from week 2 for just showing up. I get that they think scoring 10 drives ratings by getting viewers excited, but that really isn't the case. You get #RingerWars, #FavouritismWars, #OvermarkedWars, #PCGornMadWars etc

Their 10 paddles should be confiscated and only returned to them as the finals approach. It really devalues the scores, and also if someone is getting 10s straight off, where do they go from there!

I think the couples know that the critique and scores from Craig means the most because he doesn’t dish out 10s like Christmas cards. Anton has given 12 10s by week 10? That’s insane!

Absolutely nuts. I think we've now reached the point when an Anton 10 is pretty much meaningless. If someone told me a couple of years ago that in 2022, Motsi would one of the more sensible judges for scoring, I would have laughed in their face

I also feel in previous years you have really remembered the dances that have got tens as they have stood out. This year, with the exception of Hamza’s CC and Salsa and Fleur’s Samba (and CC was memorable, although not a 40 for me) and Helen’s quickstep, I can barely remember most of the others that have got tens. That doesn’t make me more excited as a viewer, it makes me less.

Edited to add: Fleur’s AT too. It really shows that if she goes out due to lack of public vote the standard will be much poorer for it.

And Anton declaring so many dances 'the best he's ever seen in the show!', another thing that becomes meaningless after he's said it half a dozen times.

You're right, this sort of thing doesn't build excitement. It's so annoying because Strictly doesn't have to resort to silly tactics (see also the ridiculous use of stats at every opportunity - 'did you know that's the earliest 10 for a cha cha cha ever?' - not a good thing!)

It's no coincidence that the dance of the series so far - Hamza's salsa - was a genuine surprise and not a result of manipulation. And I think the producers were just as surprised as the audience!

I’ve never been but have heard the studio audience is led to applaud so standing ovations etc. They boo every time the score is lower than a 7. I’m not sure how they can go past it without having a root and branch deconstruction of the scores. The first week used to be amazing if you got a 6 - now you get 8s and 9s it’s stupid.

10s were for perfect dances once - now it just has to have a really good story attached and not too many obvious mistakes.

When we were there we were encouraged to boo whenever Craig spoke regardless of the score - unless of course he was giving praise. But it wasn’t that far into the series so he wasn’t nice about many people 😂.

The audience are told to react loudly to things - many comment that it ruins the dance and they wish the crowd would quieten down but they’re adamant they want audience noise. The pro dance and the bands (we got a double dunter because the Stereophonics couldn’t record the following weekend) needed a few takes and in between those we were reminded to whoop and cheer as loud as we could and make as much noise as possible.

I often think the big reaction from the audience when the pros come on during a music guest act is a bit disrespectful to the guest. It's saying that the audience is more interested in the dancers than the guest's performance, which even if true is a bit rude... Maybe they'd get bigger names as guest acts if they were treated like the main attraction rather than just an interval stand-in for Dave Arch and Co.

Yeah Tyler got 2 10s in week 3 (Charleston) and 2 in week 4 (CC). While the Charleston was good the CC was very meh so I feel it set him up for exit as there was a feeling he was being overmarked and nowhere to go from there either.

The other 10s I'd query would be Anton's for Helen's jive (good but a clear couple of mistakes), Anton's for Tyler's CCC (Craig gave a 7!) and Shirley and Anton's for Will's waltz (probably more for the emotion/story than the dance itself).

BIB - Exactly what I was thinking.

Totally! And they still do that “pros dance then go out of shot” “pros come back on to dance again” and we were told to clap and cheer loudly every time they came back on the floor. So we weren’t paying attention to the bands because the dancers were standing near where we were before going back on to dance and we had to make lots of noise again!

Something is going a bit awry when you have the same dance score a 7 and a 10 (especially when a Strictly 7 feels more like a 5 these days 😆)

BIB - Exactly what I was thinking.

I think what he really means is 'that was much better than anything I did on the show'. So are 99% of the dances, Anton
