And I thought DWTS was bad having a 14 year old compete. Or was it a junior version of the show like DWTS did?

Yeah, that's right. So technically the pros never get fired they just don't get asked back. None of the pros now know if they'll be asked back for next year or not.
Brendan said on multiple shows that he was fired, so was he hired then his contract revoked, or was he really just not rehired?

I think it might depend on the situation and I assume there’s probably some equality employment laws they have to abide by which would probably include maternity leave

If for example Dianne (I’ll use her as she has said she would like children one day and I’m not sure where the others such as Katya and Jowita stand) signed up for another year but found out she was pregnant unexpectedly (because these things happen) a month or so later I would imagine they’d at least have to offer her the option of coming back because she was under contract. Some of the more senior pros might have a bit more sway than say Michelle or Lauren so might be able to negotiate some kind of deal. (Especially if they were a pro well liked by production)

Obviously in this industry a lot of the time the decision to start a family means slowing down career wise and a change in direction so coming back probably wouldn’t be a thing anyway.

The pros are self-employed and are contracted on a series by series basis, so there’s no requirement for the BBC to provide any element of maternity leave.

They don’t ‘employ’ the pros, they hire them for a short-term contract, and may or may not hire them again in the future, but there is no obligation to offer future contracts, or for the pro to accept a future offer of a contract. This is why they are able to run their own tours and pursue other interests in the Strictly ‘off-season’.

The pros aren’t signed for ‘the year’, they’re only hired for a specific period to cover the series and associated commitments. So in the hypothetical case of Dianne being unable to fulfil the (say) 16-week contract she negotiated in March requiring her to be available for specific duties relating to SCD from September (for the pro dance rehearsals) to December (end of series) because she subsequently discovered she was pregnant, the BBC have no obligation to provide maternity leave or commit to offering any future contracts.

DWTS had a junior series, that’s probably what you are thinking of. It was actually really good, each mini pro/celeb had one of the actual pros as a mentor.

No Willow Shields was on the main series when she was 14, Mark Ballas was her partner. I remember the junior series, didn't actually watch much of it though.

About people saying Hamza is a one trick pony with the lifts- I agree to an extent but I think lifts for celebrity men are harder than people give them credit for. Our focus tends to be drawn to the woman but so many celeb men tend to look stiff and awkward lifting their partner and it detracts from the flow of the dance, but you never see that with Hamza
They literally did the exact same lift in the salsa and the couples choice. Granted jowita wouldn't have choreographed them both

I'm sorry but 10s have been given out like sweeties this year and now they're pretty much meaningless to the point where Tyler had to act like 35/40 was a disappointing score. I include my fave Hamza in this when I say 10s have been dished out waaaay too much - they need to be saved up until a dance really, really deserves it and Craig is the only one who gets this.

Aliona got the boot, and then got promptly hauled back in 2013 because the lovely Natalie had hurt herself at the last minute and they had literally no other spare women dancers.

Aliona got to dance with Aged Golfer Tony Jacklin for all of 2 weeks, and then spent the rest of the series giving amazingly bitchy sidelong looks to the camera and selling stories to all the papers about how AWFUL and UNFAIR the producers were, it was extremely entertaining.
Was this before or after her win with jay? Always liked Aliona! I feel her era is so different to the strictly of now and she wasn’t even on it that long ago!! Feel it’s changed in the past 4/5 years.

I agree that Amy and Karim were completely non sexual but I also think Dianne is utterly sexless in dances. Her and Joe were the same. She is pretty, has the dancer's body if a bit thinner than some, but still manages to look unsexy. I can't see her and Joe being sexual at all. I bet they play board games and go to their separate bedrooms 😂
Totally agree with this! I don’t know what it is but she seems to have the sexual chemistry of an ironing board.

It was before her win with Jay, Jay was her last partner. Aliona is my favourite pro ever on the show.

I started watching Strictly again when Dianne had just joined and my son was very, very little. Because she was Australian with red hair and I had been watching so much kids TV against my will I literally thought she was the girl from the Wiggles.

That has always stuck with me and I'm never sure if it's my Wiggles association making me think she's unsexy or that she's actually as sexy as cold porridge.

What can we draw from this? My dislike for Buswell stems from #ToddlerWigglesPTSD
