Yes, it was nice enough and I love old-school glamour but it didn't hit the spot for me.

I wonder if it was because it was the opening couples dance after the big showy opener that made it feel a bit flat rather than the routine itself . It was a lovely dance and he danced it well but it felt like a step down in energy

Same here. There was nothing wrong with it, and I’ve been bemoaning the lack of proper ballroom on the show in recent years, but the choreo was a bit ‘samey’.
