I didn’t take it as patronising at all. Even though we’re in 2022, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some awful comments online or even people shouting in the street - maybe she deals with it by saying “their problem, imagine being so sad that you spend your time writing/shouting abuse about physical impairments. It’s a shame really” or something like that?
I don’t think he could win however he dealt with it tbh - if he hadn’t acknowledged how different life must be for her (I don’t know anyone with dwarfism and to the best of my knowledge she didn’t moan or snap back when Judges critiqued her, even with insensitive folk like Dianne complaining about a height difference as a justification for mistakes right in from of them) then he wouldn’t be shining a light on her disabilities and abilities and the whole reason why she wanted to do Strictly in the first place. I think Nikita was the perfect partner for her and it sounds like they both had a great time.
BIB - me neither. Anything but patronising.
I think they showed in one clip early on, how they had to adapt certain things, for example Ellie's hand on his arm, rather than his shoulder. They also explained how she had to learn the dances in a different way to which the others learn them, because of their hold positions. I'm not explaining that well, but for the others, their bodies are close together when in hold and that's part of how they learn the dance.
It was just a matter of fact description, on their part, and very interesting.
I think Nikita meant what he said very sincerely, and that it did give him some insight into how Ellie copes with her disability. I thought their partnership was inspired. I loved Nikita last year, (remember him ripping off his shirt
) and this year I adored him.
The devilment of going over to Shirley offering to do the lift with her had me laughing my head off. He was also funny about the 'illegal lift - darling'
and being confused about something Shirley had said in feedback. I forget the exact details, but I think she said one thing to them, and the direct opposite to someone else, about the same steps/ whatever.
Maybe she should have produced those dance shoes in an earlier programme
I think this year, in particular, they all seem to get on well and there was a lot of genuine emotion over Ellie and Nikita's departure.
