both tall and elegant looking women, until they danced. completely agree that women are expected to have natural grace, and i think a lot of us are guilty of that assumption too!
the relationship that strictly voters have with female contestants is really complex imo. it takes a very particular type of woman to win this show and looking back it’s amazing that kara did. i can’t tell you how many times i’ve seen a “oh i just don’t like her, there’s something about her” aimed at a female contestant whereas men can (for the most part) sail on through. if tony was a woman would she get all of the “go on toni! she’s giving it her best shot!” comments that he’s getting? it’s very strange and rooted in something i can’t quite put my finger on
anne w is probably the best example of the above but even then, i always felt that people were laughing
at her.
