I absolutely hate the attitude of admiring people for holding it together when they are feeling something intensely.

I think everyone is being a bot cruel to Jayde.
I know you're all bored of the strictly super fan schtick but if any of us went on it we'd be the same; getting excited about the whole experience, fawning of a "dahling" from Craig. She used to watch Strictly with her sister and they were both massive fans so obviously she wants to pay tribute to her. And dancing to Wind Beneath my Wings, the song from the film about two best friends, one of whom is dying of cancer, is obviously going to bring up a lot of feeling for her. Same with facing the awful comments she's facing. She didn't mention her size until she started getting tit for it online.

Matt didn't bring up any of his emotional pain but maybe that's because he couldn't hold it together if he did or because it was more of a personal test of strength for himself. And it's different with Kym and Helen because they're going through big stuff *now*.

Tony cried twice on Saturday and no one is giving out about playing with people's emotions.

Stuff the british stiff upper lip crap. Seeing people feel their feelings great!
Like I said, Iā€™m aware Iā€™m cynical and as I also said, I donā€™t have a problem showing their emotions. I know how awful grief is. Plus Iā€™m sure the producers are probably encouraging this and ultimately things have changed since the new producer took over - and not everybody likes it.

Iā€™m sorry you think people are being cruel but I have to disagree. As many others have said, Iā€™m looking for a distraction from the hardships of life. And I canā€™t help compare her to Greg last year who said he was doing it for his sister, I think they pulled some strings and made sure he did CC before he was voted off and it was touching. It wasnā€™t Jaydeā€™s CC and I donā€™t recall ever hearing an emotional backstory to an ā€˜ordinaryā€™ dance and Iā€™m sorry if it offends anyone but my own view is that it is for votes. She knows sheā€™s not the strongest dancer there and as a superfan, of course she wants to stay and knows the Judges overmarking her wonā€™t take carry her forever in a strong year.

Iā€™ll shut up before I get accused of sexism/doing women dirty for criticising Jayde. I donā€™t care if people cry tbh, it must be an overwhelming experience. But if I think a couple are making a cynical plot for votes then it will put me off and Iā€™ll come here to discuss it.

i know šŸ¤£ itā€™s basically ā€œdo this, no not like that, thatā€™s too much, just the right amount of - no stop, thereā€™s no need to bring out your nanā€. and iā€™m completely guilty of it šŸ¤£
Itā€™s a fine line, isnā€™t it ā€¦ and by and large I think people can tell when itā€™s a bit forced and not organic.
Alehsaā€™s Nan (who set the Nan bar) was fine, Mark Wrightā€™s Nan just seemed a continuing part of a RTV storyline.

I think it does depend on how you feel about the person to begin with too. Next week Hamza is dancing to celebrate BBC wildlife and thatā€™s a subject close to his heart. If he got a bit choked up and then mentioned how his love for wildlife comes from birdwatching with his dearly departed granddad - most of us here who love him would be like ā€˜Aw Hamza! šŸ„ŗā€™

Same here - I have no issue with anyone showing emotion. Itā€™s an overwhelming, exhausting experience. But when every dance becomes a personal crusade or a sob-fest it becomes hackneyed.

And yes, I 100% blame Ore for prising open the showā€™s floodgates and then forgetting to close them behind him.

I
alexandra after her jive a few years back (which she got absolutely torn apart online for) and probably a number of other examples.
When she got to the Clauditorium and said ā€œI just wish my mum was hereā€ I felt heart sore for her. I couldnā€™t have done a launch show hours after my mum died but as much as I found her irritating, I didnā€™t take it to social media. Things like that are ā€œyou do youā€ and thatā€™s why I like it here - we donā€™t all agree with each other but to the main itā€™s civilised and other points of view are appreciated.

And maybe Matt would have spoken about his illness or losses, but I think it would have been his CC.

this is completely valid too! i think itā€™s about building a connection to the person, and so anything they express and share later on immediately feels genuine. the tone of it, and how the person expresses themselves, becomes important. mark wright is a great example, as mentioned above, of a man who genuinely loved his nan but also recognised she was good pr for the journey, and so it didnā€™t come across as real.

as rightly said though, i donā€™t think they can win either way!!

the comments she got online for that were awful. sheā€™d done a great dance to a song that meant a lot to her and her mum had only just passed away, it was a completely real comment and people were horrendous to her about it. likewise how they were with ashley.

i donā€™t know if itā€™s that, in a reality tv age, people are just on the watch for feeling like theyā€™re being told to feel a certain way. as said above, oreā€™s win is a great example of almost audience manipulation (if thatā€™s not too strong a phrase). people always want to try and resist that so will push back, especially if itā€™s a contestant they already donā€™t like much.

I'll never understand how in the world Stacey Dooley ended up winning.

Wtf.

Throwback to her Les Mis American Smooth to I Dreamed A Dream when she was grinning like "Whee! This is fun!" while being carried symbolically by the oppressed into a pit of supposed despair, death and decay.

Watching this video which popped up on my Instagram timeline and seeing the second half of it where Jowita is talking to Hamza after getting their 39 has reminded me weā€™ve not had many of these ā€˜reactions in the corridor just after theyā€™ve received their scoresā€™ scenes like what we used to get in previous series on the results show

We only get one of the judges doing a voiceover whilst recapping what happened on Saturday night

They are so adorable together. I love how calm this man is - even when he just absolutely beat the crap out of that salsa, he stands there serenely and says "thank you" rather than all the screeching and jumping up and down. I've said it before but he is so refreshing. Doing it for the introverts šŸ’Ŗ

They've had 20 series experience and it should be perfected (and done my way! šŸ˜)

And whilst I want it my way, I could do a better job then the camera crew. Show me their feckin feet, not a close up of the face, I want to see their bodies dancing

I've precisely zero animation experience but I'm pretty sure I could do a better job on the CGI and make sure it's not blocking the dancers.

I wonder if both they and the band find themselves inadvertently booming "ECUADOR! DA-DAA, DADA DADADA!" at various points throughout the week, because god knows I have.

Just imagining Hamza in a cold damp hide with his camera, watching a nest of blue-footed gillywobblers for 10 hours, waiting quietly for the fledgling to leave the nest, sitting in absolute silence, and then the urge comes over him....

"ECUADOR!"

I just love the wee head nod ā¤ļø

Poor Tyler wanted to influence everyone to love garage but it just couldn't compete with this banger. Probably helps that the singer had one job they couldn't really mess up.

I miss the backstage VTs - without them would never of been treated to the gem of ā€œwell done on yer spinsā€

Itā€™s going to be difficult as sheā€™s already spoken tearfully about body image/representation and her losing her sister, either of which ordinarily be the CC narrative (much as I loathe the whole Cc/ā€˜story of my lifeā€™ vote-wringing cack), and Iā€™m not sure that going over it all again is going to do her any favours.

Itā€™s funny how your preconceptions about the contestants can be completely upended. I thought Jayde would be a great dancer and bring bags of performance value to her dances, I though Matt would be a pretentious dick, I thought Will would be a ā€˜cheeky chappyā€™ and I thought Tony was only there for the cheque. Turns out I was wrong on all four counts!

Itā€™s not beyond the realms of possibility. Theyā€™re so painfully boring that I forget that theyā€™re there on an hourly basis, so they could very well sneak into the final without anybody noticing because everybody thought theyā€™d been voted out weeks ago. šŸ¤£
I presumed Jaydeā€™s dance was her Coupleā€™s Choice one, though I did wonder why there were two of them. šŸ˜¬ Iā€™m not one for opening up on a platform like this, because most of us will have had a heartbreaking event in our lives, and rightly or wrongly I tend to view it as a bit manipulative. Iā€™m getting more cynical as I get older. If, for example, Jayde had waited till she was leaving the competition, then in her final speech mentioned her sister, then that would have been entirely different. In fact, it might have put a lump even in my throat.
Can I emphasise that I have nothing against Jayde personally? I cannot blame her for the high scores, thatā€™s the judges šŸ™„
