I’m delighted at this result. Was hoping for Richie vs James with Richie out. He was great last week but the samba was horrendous. The only downside is he’ll be back on Ken Bruce now.

I love a shock dance-off - as long as it doesn’t involve couples I like I’m not surprised Richie and Fleur found themselves in the dance-off but I am surprised it happened this soon. So many ties on the leaderboard won’t have helped them (Tony at the bottom ended up with 5 points rather than 1); the scoring is already a joke but if the show ever loses Craig then it’ll crumble entirely. He gave one 9 last night whereas Motsi gave 3 9s and a 10.

If this is Giovanni’s last series, him going out as a samba-ing warthog will be truly hilarious. I doubt he’s disappointed to be out. He can refute it on ITT as much as he wants but him and Richie clearly didn’t gel. I had to check I was still following him on IG because he’s posted so little in recent weeks compared to the amount of training stories and weekly complimentary posts he did with previous partners.

Some random thoughts from lasts night's show...

Jowita looks like Baby completely missed the lift and ended up in the lake. Wrong film but she still managed to look stunning.

Did Dianne close her mouth once during their dance?

I kept thinking Kym was Dianne when she was in the background.

Tony Adams does not have a Dad bod.

I'm so glad Katya is getting the love and credit she is as I think she's the best pro. There's so many memorable dances she's choreographed you still remember and my fatwas still her matrix one with creep Seann which naturally strictly don't mention.

No one mentions Kevin or Gio hitting on pretty much every partner they've had. Plus Kevin and Dianne both allegedly cheated that year but she took the can for them.

She also never looks pissed off with a partner who's rubbish and not going to win, unlike Gio who this season gave up.

just catching up on the spoiler, and I wasn’t expecting those two couples but it does make sense. I found Vito’s ballroom choreography a bit too contemporary/lyrical so her dances this week and last felt really similar. Richie and Gio had a bit of fun factor/silly outfits but the dance wasn’t good and heavily overmarked. I think G will be relieved for a bit of relative downtime but I wasn’t expecting them out quite so soon, particularly as he has a lot of fans.

When they showed the recap of the dances at the end of tonight's show, I had completely forgot that Kim Marsh was even in the competition. Her dance was so forgettable.

Me too! She is very forgettable to me. I think her dances are good but they all seem to be at the same pace

I don’t know if it’s because there’s no clear front runner but this is the first year I’ve thought holy tit, there are SO MANY dancers!

I really don't get this from her. But this happens with young women who don't do the whole 'I'm so humble' thing all the time. She seems like she's up for a laugh and likes testing herself.
I guess the EE fanbase is real - or just that he is a familiar face to millions of people. What is more shocking to me is that Gio's fanbase didn't turn out.
I wonder if Gio is quite glad to be out. He's worked non-stop all year, he won last year, and now he gets to do whatever and then turn up on a Saturday night and look menacing in the back of a Jason Gilikson Afro-Cuban salsa pro special.

I’m not sure I agree with this. For me it’s not her not being humble it’s the same as it is with Will - as soon as contestants pull a certain face when they’re being critiqued, you can tell they didn’t expect it at and they can’t hide their displeasure.

I think in her first dance, Fleur’s dancing was all over the place but because she closed the show and she thought it was what the judges wanted, her face fell when they didn’t lap it up. And Will was like that last week.

Obviously I can’t speak for everyone but for me, if I have reservations about a female celeb, it’s not because they’re not being ‘humble’. And some folk will always just not be someone’s cup of tea

I see from the DS spoiler thread that a quietly seething Lady Lav is blaming the costumes heavily for Richie’s departure. But the choreo wasn’t great, and they weren’t even dancing for what felt like half of it plus, let’s not pretend that they wouldn’t have been just as at risk going early in the running order doing a samba with no theming.

Voters trying to cancel out poor judging . Matt harshly marked by Criag therefore gets lots of viewers votes, and Ritchie overmarked by Shirley so gets very few

Agreed. This idea that professionals have big enough fan bases to overcome poor partnerships has never been proven to be true. Anton, Kevin, Oti, Gio, Gorka - all of them are arguably amongst the most popular professionals on the show and they all got eliminated early on when they had a partner who wasn’t very good.

If people like a pro and they have a good partner, they’ll vote for them but those pairs would get votes anyway because the celeb is good! I think very few Strictly viewers are loyal enough to a pro to vote for them no matter what (and the ones that do most likely reside in the appreciation threads on DS).

absolutely- Gio posted virtually nothing since they were paired, in the early days with him and Rose he still posted more. I felt that was a bit harsh really, and didn’t help people feel invested in them. I wonder if with the NTAs next week we’ll have a predictable ‘new love interest’ tabloid photo spread to keep him in the limelight…

i think so. I certainly didn’t think she’d be in trouble last night but after I read the spoiler looked at the leaderboard, could see she was slap bang on the middle of it with a bunch of ties. Agree about the judging too, I was wondering what they were on when they gave Richie good comments for that samba.

I think if James had got any other movie he would’ve been in trouble. His guardians of galaxy dance saved him because he was quite believable as star lord. If he’d had wills dirty dancing or helens grease theme he’d probably been fucked. Production did pretty well with him and Tony. Amy possibly also attracted the pervy man vote in those leather leggings.

I do find it hilarious the amount of people crying at Gio and Ritchies departure. “How can he go so soon after last year” and the usual “it’s not fair”. It was about time he had a stupid unsuitable costume with a crap theme. Most of the others have had to suffer (remember who let the dogs out).

I think the trouble I’m having is that this year the women (bar Ellie S) all kind of merge into one big blob of dullness. Especially Molly,fleur,Helen and Kim. I think all four are in real danger of going out earlier than they should (except maybe Kim she’s another I’m not sure is enjoying it as much as she thought or as good as she thought she might be or getting the praise she thought she woulds so maybe it’s better if she does go. And no kim you’re not doing it for the granny’s ffs you’re 46 not 66 shut up)

morning all!
Just catching up with the elimination chat...not entirely sure how i feel about it yet...wasnt Richie's biggest fan (I do enjoy Gio tho ) and their samba was pretty bad! I dont really like Fluer either...and i did think the dance was a bit boring last night, Vito's choreo isnt really doing it for me yet!

I just assumed the two of them would be a bit more popular with the public?...like who is out there voting for Matt and James!!!??

I do love a shock bottom two!! The drama of it all!!!
