Really disappointed when Robert pulled, I was looking forward to watching him since announced. Maybe he meant when he has to watch what he says because he has a dry sense of humour?
When he would talk to Claudia he was so sarcastic. Obviously Strictly is used to just smiles for the camera and everyone gushing over each other.

I respect Robert for telling it as it is regarding his time on the show - there is a slight cult/North Korea style feeling on SCD at times where everyone is expected to be smiles & positive 100% of the time and will get jumped down their throat by fans if they dare say anything negative when in reality, it is a difficult experience without a doubt. It works for some, it didn't for him, all the best.

I agree re the ‘cult of Strictly’ thing. It’s essential now that everybody must love every single second and gush relentlessly that it’s the greatest thing that ever happened to them, their pro is the best person they ever met in their life (but purely platonically), and they’re on a life-changing spiritual journey that will change them forever more.

It’s a job. Every single person there is doing it because it’s a paid gig. It was refreshing to read Sophie Ellis Bextor’s comments about the pressure to gush relentlessly about how amazing it all is is when a lot of it is not ‘amazing’ at all.

Not very job is going to suit every person. And sometimes you take something on and realise it’s not working out. So a comedian won’t be dancing in the telly in a daft costume on a light entertainment show anymore. 🤷‍♀️ Oh well, none of it matters in the slightest.

Why is he ’worried about being cancelled’? If he hasn’t said or done anything wrong then he has nothing to fear does he😉

Everyone’s worried about being cancelled (Craig has said the same this series), because saying ‘the right thing’ one week rapidly turns into ‘the wrong thing’ the next week once the parameters of acceptable opinion have been redrawn, and no one can ever get it right all of the time because the online masses gleefully comb through everything everyone in the public eye has ever said it done in order to amass evidence of ‘wrong think’ even decades earlier.

You don’t even have to say ‘the wrong thing’ to be in the firing line. Staying quiet and saying nothing is often offensive enough in itself.

That "interview" with Robert was from the Henley book festival Q&A before he pulled out... Some of you need to check the source before you comment. Also I don't see anything in what he said that is negative about Dianne??? He literally said she had to simplify routines as he couldn't get them? All the pros do that from time to time. The weird hate boner some of you have on here for her is getting scary, are you secret jealous Sugg fans? Or that wacko that sent her threats? Also calling her a fame bleep and saying she is on everything? Where?

Anyway, I don't think Dan can take criticism very well. He always tries to turn a critique into a joke or goes to the "well I've never danced before" line.

Regarding Robert and Strictly, I think now pros and celebs are pushed into being on social media a lot more than ever before and maybe that coupled with a lot of filming in training just made the whole thing more intense and stressful, and maybe after being asked to dress as Kermit he saw the way it was going and didn’t want to end up the joke act. He never really seemed into it in any week.

It’s definitely different to how it used to be, due to social media, etc. Like how Rose & Gio have been pushed into being more active on social media, so they’re taking the piss a bit. Just let them get on with their training, FFS. They’ve already got an added layer of challenge in their partnership, why should they have to waste time filming stupid tit for Instagram?

Sophie ellis bextor says in her book its like a cult.

I think she also said that for a VT they tried to steer her into saying that doing Strictly was better than when she got married, but she refused.

Good for her. It’s dancing on the telly for money, for something between 1week and 3 months. It’s fun, we watch it, we like it, it finishes, then it’s Christmas, and life goes on.

Strange because you bashed Robert in Dianne's thread for not being great!

Strange how and I bashed him??? I said he wasn't as good as people though he was going to be and I was right? His open heart surgery did effect him? And that people didn't like him before he even started on the show due to past comments, and I was right.

Also you said in a previous post had given an interview since he left, but he has not as that interview was not an interview it was from a Q&A before he left, it's strange you didn't read the entire thing before posting it.

Are you comparing me saying he isn't good at dancing due to his health and won't have certain people's support to people calling her a fame bleep? To me that's bashing, well more then bashing actually

Oooh Adam’s come across as a bit of a knob in that tweet this morning hasn’t he, who’s going to tell him his own girlfriend was a straight up on her TikTok about it.

He’s embarrassed himself obviously and is trying to save face by getting on his high horse and telling the public off!

I think he’s the type to of man that will cheat and then blame it on their innocent partner.

He’s given an interview saying the show is brutal and weird.
Hmm not a good look that he's been so quick to badmouth the show after giving that supposedly heartfelt statement about being sad to leave his 'strictly brothers and sisters.'
I like him a lot less now :cautious:

Which interview are you talking about?

I screenshot part of one that is in the Daily Mail today (and most other publications) but it's taken from an interview that was in The Sun today? However, I did just read The Sun interview and it does say near the end 'Robert was speaking at the Henley Literary Festival earlier this month to promote his memoir How Not to Be a Boy'. So apologies for not checking my sources but as the interview is in all the Sunday papers I assumed it was given this weekend?

That’s not what has happened at all. The interview is an old one, which the Daily Mail have rehashed for clicks.

I don’t see any ‘badmouthing’ either. Celebrities dancing in sequins for entertainment is ‘weird’, and the training, judging, and social media bitching is ‘brutal’.

Yes, Adam should of just laughed it off and then him and Katya could of played the situation down “just dancing” “caught up in the passion of the Tango” blah, blah, blah.

Then privately handle any upset it may have caused behind the scenes.

People that gave extra votes for it last night would have continued to do so 😉
