I’m sorry but the AJ and Kai appreciation thread on DS is probably the most cringe thing I’ve ever read. The way they act and talk about Kai especially is insane. He is a grown adult man who can do as he pleases and doesn’t need strangers on the internet who have nothing better to do than stalk celebrities to tell him how to act. I hope they’re all like 14 years old because that’s the only thing that could explain this behaviour. The talk of him being ‘respectful’ when they have literally zero idea that he’s in a relationship with AJ and no concrete evidence suggesting it. Even if they are together, they don’t need a bunch of unhinged fans watching and analysing his every move and deeming it acceptable or not.

Most of their comments come across as if they’re trying to convince themselves that they’re together and that it’s the most logical scenario despite everything pointing to them not even having met up since the show. It’s hilarious because no matter what AJ and Kai do it clearly means they’re in a relationship to them. Don’t post at all = they’re together enjoying each other’s company and working through a relationship in private. Yet you know if they start posting together again this will suddenly mean they must be in a relationship too!

I’m sorry but I just had to rant. I could go on further but I won’t (for now 😂) AJ and Kai are one of my favourite couples this series and I’m sad that their DS thread isn’t a place to just enjoy their partnership.

It is odd how some of these threads develop into something else entirely, where people who just appreciate the dancing can't really post anymore

I did wonder before, but now it seems like they're probably not a couple

Exactly. Maybe they are together, who knows, but I think the signs point to that not being the case. Regardless there’s nothing that justifies that level of obsessive behaviour and shipping real life people so rabidly. Very weird.

I’m not even against mild shipping (saying ‘they would be cute together’ or things to that affect is pretty harmless and fair game when it comes to public figures) but this is a whole other beast and veers on stalker-ish territory. I’m actually concerned for the mental health of those users.

It’s beyond weird how obsessive they get over people they don’t know or know barely anything about. Bet AJ and Kai sit laughing at some of the tit they post 🤦🏻‍♀️

I made a thread in off topic because I find shipping fascinating and worrying in equal measures. The talk of someone’s husband being approached and told his wife is with a co-star and Benedict Cumberbatch taking out restraining orders made me wonder if there’s any sort of guidance given to the Strictly pros if things get out of hand.

I’ve not been on the DS threads but the stuff I see here and the comments on IG is enough. Hopefully Kai, Gio and any of the others can just brush it off and hopefully they won’t even know DS exists because I can’t imagine it’s flattering, being the feature of someone’s obsessions.

Every little thing is analysed to the minute detail- its all very strange.

They were saying all sorts of things about how he’s a ‘good lad’ and ‘respectful’ for not touching or standing too near to Maisie. Like, she’s his dance partner! It would be completely acceptable if he were to do those things, they all do it with their partners 😂 it’s very possessive on AJ’s behalf when for all we know AJ is sat at home not giving a toss who Kai is dancing with. I’m sure she’s disappointed about not doing the tour but I doubt she’s that territorial over Kai — this is his job after all. If they really are in a happy relationship like they all seem to think then Kai dancing with someone else for a few weeks should be a non factor and shouldn’t affect their connection with each other. It’s all very strange.

Agreed, it’s so cringe — I also don’t have an account and simply lurk but part of me wants to create one and be the thread rebel 😂 I’d probably just disagree with everything LL says just to annoy her and be contrarian for the sake of it 😭

I wonder what the pros and celebs feel about it, or whether they're even aware of the extent of shipping discussion that goes on. Do they just think it's a bit of harmless fun, or perhaps in some instances actively encourage it (I suspect Giovanni knows it has boosted his popularity)

I think in most cases it is harmless, until it oversteps the mark and becomes about posting inappropriate comments on their pages or worse. And of course, it's never really a good idea to become overly-invested in anything that's beyond your control. I do worry about some of these folk if/when things don't turn out how they want. Sometimes it's best (and more enjoyable) just to appreciate the dancing! I have to remind myself of this too sometimes 😆

And the majority of it from recent weeks is the same few users going round in circles of whether they are or aren’t together based on the most insignificant things they’ve said or done 😂

It’s not even a sign of their popularity as if you look on social media, they don’t have more followers or get more engagement than the other couples from the 2021 series. In fact Rose and Gio blow them out of the water in that regard. It’s just a sign of how unhinged and obsessed a few stans are 😅
