Yeah, the problem is they need to be ready by Friday for camera blocking. so essentially they have tomorrow, if she is able to do anything, to run through the showdance again and two slower ones. Agree Bodyguard would work. Maybe slightly cheat and redo the rumba?

The way she needs to use her feet would make the Rumba really difficult, in fact the Jive might be better. Their Argentine Tango might be a possibility too.

I don’t think she’s pushed it or used it for sympathy at all so if just existing and being deaf constitutes looking for the sympathy vote then for the sake of all the ableists, we better just stick to people with no disabilities from now on then…
That's the thing though. I wouldn't accuse her at all of going for the sympathy vote because she's just existing and doing a good job of dancing. But the fact that she's deaf has undeniably raised her profile in a way the others don't have access to. Ever since she was announced people have talked about how inspiring she is and how she's probably going to win. Before they even saw her dance! And every week the judges talk about how emotional and special it is watching her dance and there's always talk about how she's doing it for the deaf community and it's all just a bit sickly sweet.
Again, I don't blame Rose for it at all as she's done nothing wrong but it's taken the shine off it a bit knowing she's 99% guaranteed to win from the beginning, and her deafness has played a large part in that.
Also not a fan of how no-one can discuss it without the insinuation that they're a jealous bigot who hates the disabled.

It was in the back of my mind that COVID might spoil the party but I didn’t even consider an injury…

Has this happened in any other series? The only contestants I can remember having to withdraw at any stage are Jade Johnson (2012, danced with Ian Waite - ligament injury after hearing her knee pop) and Will Bayley (2019, Janette’s partner, injured his leg jumping off a table/platform)

I know there I was worried about Covid and remember being glad we got to final week with no more positives. I don't recall anyone leaving at such a late stage especially for injury.

Michelle Visage picked up a really bad knee injury (think she had surgery after she left) which is why I think she got away with wanting to Vouge. There was some speculation she might not have been able to continue much longer had they stayed in the comp.

You've put it well but I still don't understand it. It's not Rose's fault how people respond to her. And yes, what she's doing is fantastic for the deaf community (not the dead one thanks, autocorrect) who are enormously unrepresented on mainstream TV. If she was a duffer or not very likeable, I don't think she'd have made it as far.

True she definitely hasn't got by just on the sympathy vote as she's obviously talented. I wouldn't even call it the sympathy vote tbh it's just like...extra support I suppose and I think it's propped her up a little bit more than the others. But again, nothing against her personally. Her AT was one of my favourite dances of the series!

You’ve quoted me but I certainly did not call anyone a bigot. I took what that poster said as Rose was looking for the sympathy vote throughout. Someone replied saying she isn’t doing that and I agreed with that person - I genuinely don’t think she does so what I see is her being there and deaf was enough for that person to say that’s what she’s doing, which, in my opinion, would be a pretty ableist point of view.

I agree with what you’ve said about Rose being deaf has been the focal point but as you also said, it’s not her fault. People were invested when Johnny Peacock, Lauren Steadman and Will Bayley too.

Yes, I agree. People would have commended her activism, but she wouldn't have got as far if she were a bad dancer. Her dancing and partnership with Giovanni are what are going to secure her the win imo. Same as with any other winners of this show.

Would it make a difference to do the rumba as it's a slower dance? I imagine that technique will suffer either way, but might she cope better with it?

on the surface the rhumba could be tricky due to the weight you need to place on your feet to get the right hip action etc - however it is a dance that kai could potentially adapt to help her out (though i don’t know if it would help to change choreography at this point). it doesn’t sound good for her as the days are going by so fast :(

i would absolutely go for the argentine tango too if i was kai - the amount of lifts give her something of a break and it’s easier to rest your weight on your toes (rather than the arch of her feet)!

No I didn't mean you personally and I know no-one has called anyone a bigot but sometime that feels like the implication.
i think that there has definitely been implications throughout the social media strictly world in general that if you don't like the way certain contestants dance it's because you're a hateful bigot bc those contestants fall within a certain group when in reality, i just don't like their dancing.

Agree. She can hardly hide her deafness- it is who she is. It's like people criticising pregnant women for showing off their baby bumps, when it is literally stuck out of your body! She is an actress taking part in Strictly who happens to be deaf. Johnny Peacock didn't win and he was disabled. If she was rubbish, she may have gotvtjecsympathy vote for a week or two, but not up to the final. I for one find it really interesting how she dances, and how Gio has adapted his teaching to enable her to do it. It's an added bonus. I don't think any better dancers have gone out ( although I think Rhys was a better dancer at the end than John, he wasn't better than Rose) so if you ignore people's disabilities and race, have the best dancers in the competition got to the final? I'd say yes.
