Not sure Tom will get much public vote beyond hardcore McFly fans if he doesn’t get enough practice time. I remember the likes of Gary Rhodes and Iwan Thomas were out very quickly and both appeared to be cases of celebs who didn’t have time to rehearse much, even in the first couple of weeks.

Am I right in thinking that there'll be two female pros without partners this year and one male? So logically it should be Nancy, Jowita and one of the new guys? I can't see them introducing four new pros and them all having partners in their first year.

The Sun reported last week that Luba is being benched this year. If true, I'm surprised given most of the male celebs over 6 foot. Maybe they think she's not popular enough? I feel a bit gutted for her

I'm assuming the other female pro is Jowita, but I don't think anything's been confirmed yet

Not to mention that first impressions really count on a show (popularity contest) like strictly. Those first two weeks are critical for making a good impression on the general public beyond fan bases. (Pro and celeb)

The way I see it Strictly has different types of voter. The one who votes for their favourite celeb regardless of how good they are. The one who votes for their favourite pro regardless of the dance (I think most votes these days are for the pro tbh) and then there’s the general voter who just votes for their favourite dance that week. If he looks like he hasn’t had the time to practice then he’s going to miss those general votes because who’s going to vote for someone who looks unrehearsed.

Was just listening to Judge Rinder's radio show and from the way he was talking, it sounded like he wasn't that keen on his pro Oksana when he participated 5 years ago. I don't recall them having issues at the time (though she was a one season wonder), makes me wonder if similar partnerships that didn't click have happened quite a few times since and we've never known about it (they try to avoid that type of drama going public).

I reckon it happens more often than not. By the law of averages, it must do. The producers love to push the ‘one big happy family, friends for life’ schtick, and I’m sure some people do make a friend (or life partner) for life, but there’ll be plenty others who have a polite, indifferent, or hostile experience.

I know they have to hype the happy, sparkly positivity, but they do over-egg the “best experience of my entire life, literally never been happier or met a more wonderful individual than my partner’ aspect to a ludicrous degree.

It’s just a job at the end of the day, and a pretty intense and high-pressure job at that.

I'd completely forgotten about Oksana!

I thought something was speculated at the time in the press, a falling out. Memories of him not attending his exit interview on It Takes Two and Oksana having to do it alone - or have I got the wrong celeb?

She always seemed very sweet on ITT.

Are you thinking of Danny John Jules & Amy? Rumours of a very strained relationship, and Amy did the exit interview alone.

Judge Rinder & Oksana were both at their exit interview.

I believe it was Oksana's choice or at least a mutual agreement not to return for a 2nd series as she missed being in the US with her husband. Probably just a pro signing that didn't work in practice, they'd have been better off bringing in one of the 3 new girls in 2017 a year earlier.

They were polar opposites so maybe didn't click but never got the impression that there was any actual dislike. I always wondered how she'd have fared without a strong personality celeb because she was very quiet.

No, I think the votes very much go the celeb. I think the pro popularity is a bit of a myth and only exists within fan forums.

Dianne supposedly has a massive fan base but has still been consistently voted out early

Yes, and I assume she acquired most of that fanbase due to Joe Sugg? Who himself didn't win.

I think the only times it seems like the audience votes for a pro is when it looks like there's a chance Anton might have a decent run. That's the only way I can explain Emma Barton completely avoiding the bottom two for that entire series (nice enough dancer but a bit dull and looked petrified every week)

I agree with that. Had Emma been partnered with another pro I don't think she would have got to the final.

Robert webb to win. But greg wise has a been a crush of mine since the 90s... 2021 redeeming itself a little bit
I was looking forward to seeing Greg Wise but a few people face said in other shows he takes himself too seriously…that doesn’t really work on Strictly so hopefully he’ll get over himself 😂

Robert Webb’s a good shout but if he gets Oti and they win then it’s probably a good shout this is likely to be Oti’s last year!

I don't know if this is widely known but Amy was offered to join Strictly in 2016 but didn't take it because she was competing in the British Final with her partner Ben at the time.

She says this in this video: (at 40:15)

So I guess Oksana was probably a late comer and maybe knew herself she was only going to stay for the one series then go home back to America.

I thought when they hired Oksana that she was taking Ola's place (short, Eastern European) but it would make sense if she was a later hire when they couldn't get Amy. I wonder if Amy would have got Rinder and been a better fit?
