I'm quite pleased she'll have a change of pace this year after Chris and Jamie, and they'll make a very attractive couple I think. Not sure how they'll do if lots of elegant ballroom is required though - that's not really Karen's strong point

It’s not like all nine of them have had proper dance training. It looks like whoever wrote this dug up the fact many of them did a bit of dancing growing up just so they could get a headline.

I HATE this! Pretty much anyone in the public eye probably enjoys attention, so at some point in their childhood or adult life likely had singing/dancing/acting classes or joined a club to perform. My kids go to a theatre club where they do all three. Are they professionals?? No.

Indeed. Pretty much anyone involved in the entertainment industry in any way has undergone something that can be spun as ‘dance experience’. It’s so tedious.

I don’t think it’s a bad thing if they were all tit it wouldn’t be very watchable.

Exactly! Who the hell wants to watch 12 retired politicians aimlessly clod-hopping all over the shop?

You need a mix of hopeless messes, plucky triers, middling journey men/women, and competent dancers.

If they actively sought only people who had never even heard the word ‘dance’ before, the pool of eligible contestants would be minuscule and people would complain about the line-up even more than they do already.

I'm not up in arms about it but I'm a little disappointed. If I was on there I wouldn't want to be with the gay dancer just because I'm gay. This putting people in boxes actually angers me a bit. I am not my sexuality, uts just one part of me. Also, Johannes trying not to make it all about him will be difficult for him.

Yup. To be honest if i was a celeb going on strictly I would pay for secret dance lessons so as not to be an Ann Widecombe type....which i possibly would be without help

I know it’s impossible to keep things hidden, and please don’t think I’m trying to moderate what you write, but I’m sure some people here would like to avoid as much speculation and see for themselves next week which is why people have been using spoilers.

I don’t think anyone here will be surprised about John having a male partner because it was touted weeks ago. But there was so much outcry about last year’s same sex partnership I’m sure a lot of people hoped it would be scrapped.

I don’t know if anyone saw Len Goodman on GMB this week, I didn’t catch all of what he said but I’m sure he said same sex dancing, especially female partners has always been a thing so he has no problem with it. It sounded he was less keen on contestants with stage school/trained dance histories as even if it wasn’t Latin and Ballroom, you’d have a better idea of placement etc

Spoiler: Thoughts

I think those pairings are okay. Dan was always getting one of the two tall girls so it was basically a flip of a coin. I am very Surprised by Giovannis partner though was definitely expecting her with other people. I think Tom and his partner are well matched and hopefully early to mid outs. With his schedule in the early part of the series I can’t really see him making a good impression. Plus he’s cringe as duck and horrifically smug. Definitely think they want a female celeb to win this year.

Many of them do have secret lessons beforehand, including two ‘never danced a step before’ winners
