They can't go back to the way it was in like 2005 but at least make sure that the celebs dance a ballroom and latin each in Week 1, that only one non B/L dance is allowed in final (looking at you Jamie) and try not to go overboard with CC, Charleston etc. Karen has now made it far two series in a row despite doing all the specialty dances and "party latin" whilst dodging almost every ballroom.

I worked it out in the last series — there are 5 ballroom, 5 Latin and 5 speciality dances now (not including the showdance). With the shorter series, they only did 9 dances (plus a showdance in the final). I think most of them did more speciality dances than Latin or ballroom.
I just went and checked to be sure I wasn't being unfair! Of the ones in the final:
So I was maybe being a little unfair, but there definitely wasn't enough ballroom going on! (The numbers in brackets are if you count American Smooth as ballroom and salsa as Latin, which I know some people do.)

Jamie had 2 Ballrooms and all 5 specialty dances. Neither of the Waltz styles, basically nothing slow. Says it all (sorry Jamie fans).
JJ & Ranvir also stayed in their comfort zone way too much - both decent at ballroom, suddenly not so hot when they eventually had to do latin.

In fairness to him, it's me who used the word "fall" (my language is too Americanised at times).
Agree though that he'd be insufferable if he returned, I'd think twice about watching or at least would skip his performances regardless of which celeb he got. He particularly annoys me because I can see through him.
