I’m just watching now on catch up - 6 dances in so far. Making me a bit emotional: I’ve grown up with Strictly and watching them from different years is reminding of where I was at that particular time 😭

I’d forgotten Simon Webb’s AT - I was never a fan of Christina but bloody hell it was good!

So I think we can conclude we are all a fan of a jive after that 😂
Also Gorka in that jive with Alexandra ❤️😭😫😍🔥

Also crying at Bruce Forsythe 😭 what a legend ❤️

Another also I cried more at Caroline doing the Charleston than her show dance it was just perfection and she looked like she was having the time of her life.

So glad they included this dance, it's one of the most underrated Argentine Tango's and omg Kristina was ripped!! Her arms! Her legs! 😍 And I thought the singers did an amazing job with El Tango de Roxanne. I sometimes wish Strictly would upload some of the best live songs to Spotify because the singers used to do a great job back in the day.

And I agree with @thegirlscout that the dresses were much skimpier back in the day! I kind of miss that. I remember the newspapers reporting on Ola Jordan's catsuit lol

I loved Karen Hardy: one of my all time pros. She absolutely would make an ace judge!

Anton was so right: Tom Chambers show dance definitely won it for him and as much as Chris Hollins was a rubbish winner I loved his Charleston with the fish move at the time and was so chuffed Ola won (loved her back in the day and always wondered why she was married to James 👀)

Way too much Ore for my liking though...

That Charleston is what got me into Strictly - just pure joy. Also really liked Ola when she was a pro, thought she was very underrated. Never quite understood what she saw in James (she's sweet but he comes off abrasive). I also kinda wish they gave her a really good celeb just once (Chris H wasn't it while Ashley TD had to juggle an insane work schedule and a newborn with the show).

If you can cope with the speed of a jive and are ok at dancing then you can pull off something impressive as, in my opinion, there’s less pure dance technique needed. I think that’s why so many jives were included.

Very jive heavy, some surprises in there. Debbie McGees salsa? Didn’t remember it. Abbey Clancys waltz? Yawn.

Surprised Kara’s rumba or Rachel Stevens foxtrot didn’t make it, but then it wasn’t hugely ballroom focused which is a shame.

I agree re Kara - I loved her American Smooth (I’m sure it was at Blackpool when they first did it? Unless I’ve rewritten history).

I also prefer both Aleshas and Louis’ show dances more than the ones included in the countdown: possibly as I love Bonnie Tyler’s Hero and the way Alesha hit all the beats was fab. I loved Matthew Cutler: was gutted when he left.

I was really chuffed Jill and Darren’s jive made it as it was so early on - I’ve said it on these threads before it’s my ultimate favourite dance and has really stood the test of time: long before Strictly became about ringers and how big your social fan base is. For me as a huge fan it was the first point where I was truly wowed by a celeb and she really held her own with Darren.
I always wanted to learn the dance (haha fat chance) - I wonder if Jill can still remember it?!

Just caught up on yesterday’s countdown and I really liked it! I agree that they should do like a Strictly’s all-stars show previous contestants, we had sooo many exciting ones back in the day.
I know there was a lot, but I loved seeing so many Jive’s as it really is my favourite dance 🕺
Also loved seeing Pasha back he was one of my favourite pro’s, and very glad we didn’t have to put up with Kevin 🤣

I enjoyed the show, it was far better than their specials that they had before the actual series started in September - they were terrible!

However, I don’t care about Ed Balls or Ore or Ashley Roberts, I have nothing against them but their dances always seem to make some kinda list. When you think about just how many contestants there have been, they could show some “forgotten” dances, I would love to see Kelly Brook, Emma Bunton, Ricky Whittle, Scott MaslMatt Dawson, Chelsee Healey, Kara Tointon etc etc, I don’t need to see Gangnam Style for the 342nd time!

Love that Claudia said Danny Mac was the glitterball winner by mistake! I will go to my grave being bitter that Ore won.

Also, these shows rarely discuss the ex-professionals or the judges (past and present) that much, they touch on them but that’s about it which is a shame as the professionals and the judges are the foundation for the show.

And my last comment on the show is how much the outfits have changed, I can’t believe some of the stuff they used to wear! Would never pass today!

I also prefer both Aleshas and Louis’ show dances more than the ones included in the countdown:

I recently rewatched Louis' show dance and honestly I just found it quite underwhelming. There's not much actual dance to it and it's mostly him just swaying his hips and lifting up Flavia with a few dramatic walks. It felt like a slightly more sexy gymnastics floor routine. I think maybe that as an ex gymnast, and also watching it intimately growing up, I was less impressed with his displayed of strength throughout purely because it's the norm to see in the gymnastics world 🤷🏼‍♀️

I remember at the time I was definitely rooting for either him or Dani Harmer, so I was absolutely a supporter of all his other dances. I just don't personally understand the hype for his show dance.

I only started watching in 2014, so I hadn't seen any of the older dances before (not that many made the list). After now seeing them, i'm completely baffled by Tom Chamber's showdance and Louis Smith's dirty dancing routine being included - thought the former was awful and the latter just a crap version of the movie choreography, even more so than most movie week dances.

And I don't even know where to start with bloody Widdecombe being on that list - they should be erasing her from Strictly history rather than making out she was some sort of loveable comedy turn

Loved Jill's jive though. But the camera work was even dodgier back than than it is now

Glad to see Alexandra and Gorka's jive made the list. She can be a bit of a tit on occasion, but that dance was 🔥🔥🔥

Just so happens I just watched it on YouTube as well. It's very underwhelming as a dance, some decent lifts and Jesus Christ I think he is very sexy (and I know he certainly isn't to everyone's taste) but the dance. Yawn.

Louis' Showdance was nothing to write home about without the gymnastics. It was obvious that they were trying to showcase that and not his dancing. He was always guaranteed to win anyway.

I think he'd actually be much better if he did the show now - he was really young at the time and seemed a bit immature plus has done some dancing since he left the show. Also think another pro could have brought more personality out in him, Flavia was nice but a bit quiet. If he did an All Star series, I'd want him to get Katya.

I think Tom's showdance was so iconic and a lot of people remember it as THE showdance. I think about two have matched up to that 'wow' standard since (for me, Kelvin and Oti's showdance last year and don't shoot me but HRVY and Janette's was SO good imo). It quite literally won him a theatre career. I was only like 7 at the time but from what I can remember, a lot of the showdances at the time were good but basically a 'how many lifts can we squeeze into one routine' whereas Tom and Camilla's had a significant amount in hold while still being so entertaining and memorable. I think it says a lot that people still regard it as the best like 12/13 years later. Also does anyone remember Tom and Oti's charleston on the xmas special a few years ago? That would've definitely made some 'best of' lists if it was a main series routine!!

And yes, the old outfits were so iconic!
