There was a good summary on the last thread :)

thank you! ill have a look

I don't think Danny was a perfect student by any means - probably had a bit of an ego like Caroline did this series but I didn't buy the narrative that the papers were selling us, considering that we saw her being really strident with Brian (over 50 and her weakest celeb dance wise) and have since seen her being intense and hungry for the trophy with both Karim & JJ. I think both DJJ & Amy contributed to that situation (two intense personalities are bound to argue) and he did have a right to be angry if he got thrown under the bus given the circumstances of Amy's injury. I don't buy that he was a bully (and of course, Digital Spy vilified him without knowing the context) but I definitely think there was an argument.

I wonder if both were frustrated at the fact that he was 58 and just wasn't as physically able as anticipated - wouldn't surprise me if both went into the season thinking they were going to walk it.

The Danny thing always kind of baffled me. It seemed strange that someone who had been in ‘show business’ for all those years and never really had a bad reputation all of a sudden got one when he went on Strictly. It felt it a bit strange, but I honestly have no idea what went on there to be fair, maybe he’s gotten moody in his old age 🤷‍♀️

I’d like to see Jay Rayner in the next series as I‘m in love with him but also concerned about his weight. Strictly would be perfect for toning up his tummy!

Isnt he really tall?
Like 6ft 3?
I have no idea how tall the other dancers are, so he'd need a pretty tall partner.
Nice bloke.

I don't think DJJ was a great match for the general Strictly vibe - I remember him saying a few times how he just went on it to dance and didn't like all the other stuff that came with it - silly VTs, interviews etc. Not necessarily his fault, but probably more so producers/bookers who didn't really make him aware of what was involved when he signed up perhaps

I think there was a issue where he gave an ill-advised interview to the Sun, they inevitably twisted his words and then he went off on twitter about it? Can't remember all the details though. God knows who was at fault with him and Amy, maybe a bit of both and just a complete personality clash

I did like their jive though!

Sort of on topic, sort of off topic. But Shirley and Rylan have been announced as doing the Taskmaster New Year's Special. I'm.sure Rylan will get in to the spirit of it all and be great. I just wonder whether Shirley might just not get in to it enough and be a bit upright and boring. Because it is quite a lot of easy humiliation for viewer entertainment.

I’m sorry if this had been shared before, if it has I don’t remember! I honestly do genuinely feel awful for what JJ has been through and I can appreciate getting so far in Strictly is such a triumph for him and he’s definitely a “journey” contestant... but I also feel like this article was really heavy, it’s basically like - here’s everything JJ has been through which means he deserved to win the most not because of dancing ability (in a dance competition, may I add) but because of his strength and bravery.

I feel like with everything in the press and all the VTs, it doesn’t feel genuine? JJ doesn’t seem like he wants all of this, all the attention and pity votes... why would you go through all of that pain and recovery just to use it as a bid to win a competition? It really feels like either Amy is so desperate for the win she’s helping get all these stories out in a plea to get everyone on team Amy JJ, of someone else perhaps the producers.

I think I could say that if it was without the whole pity party it would be much more genuine and a lot more of us would get on their side, but then I also believe that Amy is kind of scary and also that JJ lacks something in personality, which now I come to think of it could be a result of all his pain meds currently? Not sure, but I can imagine they’re pretty strong and take a lot out of you, maybe why he’s always got a shocked expression on his face.

(for someone who said just two days ago she was going to boycott SCD2020 because of this guy I invested a lot of time writing and contemplating this, ha!) (edited grammatical/punctuation errors)

I feel like a complete witch but I immediately rolled my eyes when I read the article. You're right what he's been through is so inspiring but either Amy or the producers have ham fisted the sob stories that I'm just totally turning against him. I do wonder if Amy will suddenly talk about her chrohns now? The documentary really changed my mind of her from last year but i realise this was probably stage one of trying to land the crown

No don’t worry, I did too! It doesn’t feel natural at all, I know as soon as people enter competitions the press start releasing loads of stories about them, but this doesn’t seem like JJ’s side of the story. I do feel bad if it’s Amy forcing this all on him, I wonder if she’s hiding well the fact she’d want them to win for her and not for him? 🤣 I haven’t actually seen her documentary! I’ve heard everyone mentioning it, but can’t say I’ve come across it - maybe if I’m bored I will.
