Silent Witness

I quite enjoyed it, thought it was a good start to the series. Glad there was no ludicrous setting for the story (ndrangheta, music festival, etc) like last series. Just your good, old-fashioned unsolved serial killer mystery. And Velvy seems to have bedded in a bit more as a character now. Thought John Hannah was good, too.

Bloody Velvy what a stupid name it makes me think Vulva every time I hear it! Same old crap, minimal autopsies? The drowned lady looked like jelly!

I used to really enjoy SW but gave up on it when it all got so ridiculous and the decent characters either left or got killed off.

As for Emilia Fox...Presumably her connections have kept her in acting roles.

I haven't watched it yet, so glad there's no spoilers. However they never properly replaced Clarissa and then Thomas and that was the downfall for me. They've never recovered the relationship Jack had with her, and instead put him onto Nikki which ruined her character - one of the funny things about Nikki was she was with a different guy every series!

Simone was good when she was in it, but the whole thing with Velvy and the niece is bordering on ridiculous. And the guy in charge has nowhere near the command of Leo or Thomas.

Didn't find it too bad but they really do make nikki do some dumb stuff which, after everything she's gone through, she should know better.

Love Jack, always loved he had a bit of an action man/tough guy persona. But clarrisa leaving really through the balance off. They've always gone too far with him and he has gone stiff and robotic, he looks like the terminator at times.

I get that for story purposes they need to leave the lab to make it interesting to watch. But these days they barely need the police

Curious to see where they are going with the lecturer character. On one hand he seems to be being the cliche out for touch slighrly problematic academic, but he also has moments where he speaks the truth (especially opening of episodd 2) and cares about justice.

I finally watched the first episode, and thought it was a lot better than previous series. Probably up there with some of the best episodes we've had in years since series' 16-19.

The only thing I will never understand is Velvy, he's obviously some sort of very delayed replacement for Holly and Zach who worked as Lab Tech's in the Lyell years ago but he just doesn't fit. He behaves like a work experience student, not an experienced member of staff and like an annoying child that needs to go play somewhere else as proven by Nikki int he first episode. And the guy in charge has nowhere near the hold on the show or charisma Leo or Thomas had. I would be happy for them to get rid of everyone except Nikki and start again with the cast. And the one way Jack stays is if they break up and Clarissa comes back.
