I was just listening to the SATC series on the Origins podcast and they talk quite a lot about how the intended plot for the never-happened third movie was around Big dying and Carrie trying to cope with that. Chris Noth said he didn't like the first two movies due to the cheesiness factor but that the third one had a really strong script and he felt it would have been quite moving and really worthwhile. I wonder if they're planning on reviving that storyline for AJLT?
imagine if the only reason Big agreed to film this new series is if they kill him off so that he no longer has the chance of them trying to revive it again with another movie 😅

Thats correct but the whole discussion about the guy being bisexual beforehand was very dated. Charlotte saying they should pick a side etc....
I'm not being funny, but that was realistic. I've heard women say things like that even today. I'm sure lots of women are still cautious about dating bisexual men. And as a gay man, from what I've seen of bi men, they could be right😆 just because overall attitudes change, it doesn't mean people still dont think like that. The only thing that bugged me about that episode was Carrie's reaction.....as a sex columnist.

Yeah I agree, I think that scene was actually realistic, I think the point was to show that a guy who Carrie was into had a sexual past that didn’t fit into her version of “normal” and it challenged her. I don’t think it was intended to be homophobic or poking fun at bisexuality, it was more to show how some people perceive things versus the reality that Shaun then showed Carrie

Totally. This was what SATC did best in my opinion. The girls had interesting, and honest, discussions about the realities of dating. Which made season 6 all the more frustrating, when it ended in pure fantasy. Shame.

As a bisexual woman though, its frustrating to be told "to make our minds up". We don't have to pick a side because we are attracted to both sexes. It doesn't mean we are going to cheat or are espcially promiscuous. To be told " to pick a side" is extremely biphobic. Just like you can't choose being attracted to the the same sex we can't choose being attracted to both? I'm not saying that dating a bi man wouldn't come with questions, but Charlotte's 1950s opinion about bisexuality is dated and the episode wouldn't wash in 2021.

That’s the whole point of the episode.

charlottes opinion was challenged by Shaun’s reality; plenty of people did and still do think like Charlotte, it showed an honest conversation between the 4 women and Shaun was the antithesis of it. That was literally the point of that storyline!!

I get that but people are still allowed an opinion on what the characters said and how it would probably be looked at today!! This whole thread is having an honest conversation about how we felt throughout the series, and there's been many comments about things Carrie has said over the years that have grated. Why is it wrong for me to say that what Charlotte said about bisexuals was dumb?

The dumbness on the subject is probably a good reflection on how most straight people are.

The difference is, anyone with any sense keep their dumb comments to themselves. If they’re not bi, aren’t in a relationship with someone bi it’s not going to affect them. They have no reason to swot up on it, just a moral duty not to be a judgy prick.

I'm sorry " the dumbness is a reflection of how most straight people are"?! Iam straight and I actually don't know anyone else who is straight who has those views on bisexuality. both of my serious ex boyfriends have been bi and I couldn't care less. judgemental statements like yours are dumb imo

Times have definitely changed, and the episode would probably be written differently today, but for the time, these were honest and reasonably balanced discussions. There needed to be strong opinions to make it interesting to watch and for the other characters to disagree and debate. We live in a world of different perspectives, I do think SATC represented that to a degree, well 4 white women's views. It's just a shame the series wasn't very diverse.
